New to RL

hello all,

I recently purchased a 2004 Acura RL, i am familiar with the TL since i have owned three of them.

I was wondering, when traveling down the highway it seems like the RPMS are rather high. at about 60 im above 2k.

what im wondering is, what are your Rpms at what speed?

thanks so much

Eddie

It's only a four speed so, depending on the TL you came from, the rpms will be higher. Welcome!

Just as phins2rt pointed out, since the 1st gen RL is only a 4 speed, the RPMs at 60mph will be above 2K for sure. If you're used to TLs from 2000 or newer, they were all 5 speed so there's your difference.

Welcome....keep in mind the TL and RL are two different animals....RL is NOT a good contender for spirited driving like the TL (intended for OLE folks, not spirited youngins.....).
Enjoy!

As a spirited youngin, I can confirm this But the 02+ are definitely better than the earlier ones because they tightened up the suspension with better shocks/springs and better sway bars i think. After a little backroad fun (if you can call it that with this thing) with my friend who has an 06 civic Si, my 01 was gasping for a break! It's almost humorous how much it rolls and pitches under braking and cornering. Makes trail braking extra useful though haha. A lot of nasty creaks and pops coming from the front suspension

On the other hand, 4th gear will hold for a long time. I used to take my RL into mountain passes and it rarely kicked down to 3rd..

If the RL had a taller 5th gear, you'd probably get high 20's on flat roads.

Thanks for all of your input, it may not be super fast but the ride is amazingly smooth to me. I rather like it.

one quick question for anyone here with an 04, do you have a trip computer? When i look by pushing Menu, info, and cancel it says "trip Computer V. .59" but its grayed out on the other parts along with "solar angle" do i have the wrong navi disc? i have an orange disc version 3.30
