Navigation Problems

I have a 2000 w/Navi, for some reason the last month or so the Nav has been "lost" I never get the little beams coming off the earth symbol in the upper left corner. It is like I am not getting a signal at all. Anyone know what it could be? Can it just go bad? I have the 2005 DVD update and have had no problems until a couple months ago. No changes have been made to the car in that time.

It is possible that the GPS rcvr may have indeed gone bad. You can probably have your dealer diagnose the problem to figure it out.

You can run diagnostics to the GPS system.
I have 2002 RL and the GPS diagnostics is very nice.

How do I do the diagnostic? Is it something I have to have the dealer do?

You can do it yourself.
place the key on on, doesn't have to be start.
Press menu.
Now press and hold down the following buttons with the correct order, one after each other and keep them pressed, you should have all 3 pressed.
Menu
Map
Cancel

Menu should come up, be carefull do not change things you don't understand.

I ran the diagnostic and everything seems OK except it cannot find the satellites. I wonder if it is just the antenna unit or if it is the entire nav unit that I have to replace. looks like I may have to bite the bullet and pay Acura the money to tell me.

Won't Acura tell you without actually charging. I thought they had to give you an estimate of the cost before doing any real work. Our lexus rx300 was out of warranty when we had an issue with it. I took it in for an oil change and mentioned it. They ended up telling me what was wrong and just fixing it free. If you are not far out of warranty take it in for an oil change and ask them about it. They may do a customer goodwill repair on it. Especially if you have been going there for all your service in the past and have a good standing relationship with them.
