Unhappy Navigation Hard Drive Failure

I have a 1999 RL and the Navigation hard drive has failed. Two dealers have told me that Acura went to a CD system because of this. Even Acrua in Calif can't confirm they can fix this even with a replacement unit. Is there an off the shelf unit that I can install that will use the same in dash screen?

Your best bet is to find another one at a junkyard.

If you don't have any luck at a junkyard (I didn't) look for a PCMCIA Hard Drive or something similar on ebay. Any kind of pcmcia storage will do and you shouldn't need more than 250-300Mb. I'm not sure about CA, but my maps only take about 220Mb. Then just find someone that has a working hard drive and copy everything over to your new drive.

I went to the dealer to see if he could program my CF card. 100 programmed then got an error. didnt work!

maybe somebody that has actually done this can send their feedback.

It worked and continues to work just fine for me. Try to find someone else with the same region and copy their files.

1997 Nav Hard drive failure

I replaced a hard drive with a PCMCIA card and a 512 meg. compact flash card. It's solid state so it works perfectly. The CA region map is smaller than the NW map which takes in from Washington to Nevada (I think). I bought it on Ebay for $125 plus $10 shipping and it came already programmed. You could do it yourself much cheaper, but not sure Acura could or would program it for you. Onlly drawback is they stopped making update for the old hard drive style nav systems in 2002. Hope this helps.

I have the SE region.

What kind of CF card did you use? Don't they have CF 1 and CF II? which one works? I think I bought CF II.

99 tl 96 97 98 99 rl hard drive

Hey anybody having problems with 99 TL or 96, 97, 98, 99 RL hard disk navigation problem? There are seven regions i beleive. Just know your region by turning on your navigation , setup, info and note the region you have. (could be NE, SC, MG, NV/CA, SE etc......) try to look for it on limewire, and download the software and put that software on a 512mb compactflash card and insert that in a PCMCIA compactflash adapter and your hard drive is ready. That is what dealers sell and money rippers sell and they are solid state drives.

any probs?

Help a noob?

I think I'd like to try using a CompactFlash card in a PCMCIA adapter, and the parts look pretty cheap. My disk is dead, so I can't get the maps off of it. My only hangup is that I can't find the maps anywhere online....can anybody help me out by posting the December 2002 download of the maps? I'd prefer region 5 (5OG), but I'll settle for anything just so I don't have to stare at the yellow error message! Thanks.

You can install a 00-03 TL or 01-03 CL or 01-02 MDX DVD drive in there without ANY problem. You then need to find yourself a NAV DVD disk and you are set.

I've personally done this on my buddys 99 TL when his HD took a dump.

While I am posting here...I had some transmission work done on my RL back in October. When I got in the car, my navigation was working, but the satellite was not showing up in the top left corner of the screen. Therefore, my car was not driving on the virtual map. The HD is fine. I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion on how to fix this problem. Thanks!

Check the GPS antenna cable connection on the Navi head unit in the trunk. You need to flip your body and then put your head in the trunk to see the back side of the navi head unit. A flash light will be helpful. The GPS antenna cable is located at the very left conner of the unit from the back side view. It is a small grey or black colored rectangular shape connector.

My problem is that my drive is dead, so I can't see the region. Fortunately, I know it.
I haven't been able to find the software on Limewire. What do you enter in the search field?
I have the adapter and a 256 mb cf card. Is it too small for the nw region?
Thanks.
Stan in Ore.

I have the NM region (Northwest/Mountain) of map ADB085 (the latest Dec 2002 version). However, I am moving to CA and will need the CA/NV region. I called both dealerships near me and neither of them have the data. Does anyone have the CA region data that they can share with me?

Also, I have some web hosting space, so if you have any region and care to contribute to the cause, send it to me and I will post it online for all to enjoy. Email me at blazinboy.20.jones85 at neverbox.com.

wow. whole thread nobody has a clear solution. this sucks! my HD died too. I wonder if it is possible to take a regular "window mounting" GPS and hook it up to the screen in my 99 RL somehow. this way we won't have to worry about all the other crap.

The solution is to get the dvd navi unit from a 99-02 TL, 00-03 RL, 00-02 CL. It's a direct plug-in.

'00 has the same system as the others ('00 to '03) with the black navigation DVD disc. It's the 2nd generation Acura navigation system.
