Question Intake Resonator Delete

Hey y'all! I'm new to this community and I've seen some discourse around resonator deletes. While reading up on this I have developed a few questions.

- What are the steps to remove it and do I need to install a replacement?
- Does this boost performance in anyway besides an enhanced sound?
- Does a resonator delete actually disrupt air waves that can cause the MAF sensor to function improperly or is that just hearsay?

I’m new to cars, so I apologize if some of my questions seem obvious. If there’s a thread I missed that already answers these questions, please to direct me to it.

You remove the front bumper and the air box to get access. You might get a slight performance increase as deleting the resonator will draw air from the front bumper area outside of the engine bay unlike the oe setup. You wouldn't feel anything though. This car does not have a MAF sensor and deleting the resonator wouldn't disrupt anything.

Oh and if you do it, you will have to replace air filters more often.

Dunno exactly. Assume 15-20K. I don't run a resonator delete on the RL and never will. I do on the RLX. The RLX's filter got a lot more dirty a lot quicker after I deleted the resonator piping.

What's the reasoning behind not running a resonator delete on your rl?

Your replies aren’t showing up again. Anyways, I don’t run a delete on the RL because it’s kind of pointless power wise and the whole point of the RL is that the engine is very quiet. Dare I say that the engine is one of the quietest ever produced for a luxury sedan. Also, the location of the intake makes it a little vulnerable to hydrolocking the engine if the delete is done.

I think it's because I'm still considered a new account to everything I do has to be approved by moderation still. So would the resonator delete cause an obnoxious amount of noise or is it you enjoy the quite from a luxury car and want to keep it that way?

The noise isn’t too bad, but it’s pointless and doesn’t even sound that great. I don’t have the resonator on at the moment due to me preparing to do repairs to the crash structure sometime in the future. If you have the tools and time to kill. Remove the intake manifold and clean/ port and polish the runners. Made a big difference even at idle. I didn’t port, only polished.

If you port the manifold and cylinder head, be careful. The intake manifold gaskets use rubber seals to seal the cylinder head and the intake manifold.

Gotcha. I was under the impression that it sounds pretty good. I'll be getting a parts car soon so I think I'll delete it on there and see how it sounds and then make a decision from there.
