How do I flush the Automatic Transmission?

The transmission on my 1999 RL is starting to shift a little abruptly. I intend to flush the transmission myself in hopes of smoothing things out a bit.

What is the best way to flush out the transmission fluid? Also, any detailed tips such as fluid capacity, correct type of fluid, drain plug location, etc., would be very helpful.

Acura doesn't recommend flushes. Drain and fill only

Okay ... drain and refill. Where exactly is the drain plug and how much transmission fluid is required?

call any dealership parts dept. and they will tell you how much to fill then multiply it by 3......Avoid Flushing unless you are a transmission expert from Honda......

Do the drain and fill a few times. Follow this thread:

http://acura-legend.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4818

You don't want to use Honda fluid each time (It becomes to expensive) Also, buy a new ATF filter.

www.rockauto.com

has an entire package which includes the filter, and o-ring and gasket which all need to be replaced.

Do the tranny flush first then, right before you fill up with HOnda fluid the last time, drop the oil pan and replace the filter.

Honda fluid only. The other fluids do not have the correct frictional properties.

Yup this is what you do. There will be old fluid left in tranny but flushes are not possible on these tranny's.
