Head Unit Reccomendations?

Got to borrow a 2012 Rl for a few days and now am jealous of the badass in-dash navi, Bt, XM, etc Features. You can put a double din in 2000 Rl right? anyone have reccomendations, tips for a nice Unit? Don't have the factory Navi btw, just tape deck with auxillary adaptor for my iphone

You would be better off putting in an OEM navigation system. It's a lot of work, but far superior to some off-market brand. It will also look way better and actually match the car.

Just my 2 cents.

Im going to have to disagree with that. The nav system in the 03 and below is "OK". The Nav system in the 04 is better, but trying to install that is a pain and WAY too much trouble. You need the xm unit for traffic info and the voice system and a lot of wiring. Youd be better of selling your RL and getting an 04 for the amount of trouble it is.

New headunits have come far along. You get all the benefits of new high end cars like voice calling contacts being transferred to it control of some phones, navigation of course, and I think some are even internet connected.

Ive been toying with the idea myself, but like the oem look as well as back up cam.

I do not have any recommendations, but look for the features you want. fully loaded theyre still like 1500 or so.

i added an aux RCA port to my 00 RL a few year back and still stuck with the wiring. I will upgrade that with a bluetooth this weekend so i can stream audio wirelessly this time around. it is hard to depart this sweetheart of mine. :-) 13.5 years to go and many more to come.

Thanks for input, like you guys mentioned its gonna be like 1200-1500 for unit with everything I want. Have seen a couple 04 navi units for 800 but imagine its still a big job to swap that in and dont know if it comes with everything id need. Anyone done that to an older rl with basic tape setup like mine? What I'll probably end up doing is just getting the aux adaptor that goes through the cd changer connect (I never use CDs any more- 99% pandora or iPhone music) I think I'd be happy with just a better quality sound over the 8$ tape adaptor I've been using.

I don't think the aftermarket models look that bad. Here is my Kenwood in my '02

I have an 02 with a stock Navi, and I plan on replacing the head unit with most likely a flip out so I can plug my iPod in. For people that have an 02 and a stock navi, GOSIMPLE has an adapter that is direct connect to the iPod, however it still sends its signal over the air. I made the mistake of purchasing and installing this, and now I have a constant high pitch whine whenever I listen to my iPod. Some fabrication will be in order, which i am definitely not looking forward to.

You will need a double din DVD/NAVI for the RL for a perfect fit/ look. I saw one with the single din, to be honest it looks weird. New Pioneer double din DVD head will fit and it has a lots of feature depending on how much are you willing to spend.

That's what i'm afraid of, that its not gonna look right. But I really do want to keep the stock navi. I've never seen it done with the stock navi and a flip out, if I can get the black bezel right I might be able to pull it off.

Oh, never mind. So you had the stock Navi then you can get a single din. My bro did the same thing on his Mdx. He has the stock navi too and installed a single din. You need to fabricate your own brezel.
