Hi, I have a quick question, does the RL have 12 or 18 gals gas tank? I always fill my car with 12gals and the gauge show full. I've checked the manual but no luck, so I look online and it said the RL actually have a 18 gallons! I have a 96 BTW.

 

It is 18 gallons. I think the gas light comes on when there is about 3 gallons left. I always put 15-16 gallons in mine(i usually fill once a week) but ive put 17.6 ish before.

 

The RL has an 18 gallon tank. At about 4-5 gallons remaining, my fuel light will start to come on during downhills but then go off again (80+ miles of highway driving). At about 3 gallons remaining, it will stay always on(60+ highway miles). i have only ever been able to put 17 gallons in (I don't top off), BUT I've also noticed that the fuel gauge stays on full until I've drained about 4 gallons from it (80-100 highway miles). so if you're filling it as soon as the gas light comes on at all and filling it with 12 gallons, that puts you at around 16-17 gallons in your tank, which makes sense with your needle showing a full tank.

 

Mine is kind of strange. I had t0 check the owners manual to see if there was actually a low fuel light since I have never seen it. I think the most I have put in is 14 gals and the needle was as close to empty as I was comfortable with! After I fill, the needle comes off F within 10-20 miles. The first half tank is only good for about 100 miles (city) but the last half tank will get me about 150-180 miles! I am going to try and drive it until the light comes on. Maybe I'll carry a spare fuel can in the trunk, just in case!

When my light comes on, it usually have about 3 gallons left. The most I ever filled was 17.4 gallons and that's with the car losing power on turns and from a stop sign or red light due to such low fuel.

 

I filled up for 15.096 this evening and I was nervous. For some reason, I thought the RL had a 16 gallon tank..
