ERG system clogged need to clean shit out of engine
Hey everybody, unfortunately I havent found the upgrade for my car 2000 rl ive been looking for, instead today I took my car to a honda only specialist to do their $80 diagnostic to find out that due to the previous owners combination of using mid-grade and driving slow has caused for the intake, air plentum, and erg system to be full of shit and residue i need to get cleaned out. They are trying to charge me $350 possibly $471 if they have to replace a gasket they would be taking off to clean it. But one mechanic there was real cool and suggested that i add an engine cleaner everytime i fill up and get gas from exxon, sunco, phillips66/conco, and union 76 premium only due to their additives or some shit. That and high throttle driving for the next 5k miles then taking it to advanced auto to get the check engine light reset and see if it comes back on or not. its cheaper then 500 and sounds great to me so Im asking whats the best stuff to use? ive asked people around but havent gotten any good answers. I picked up a bottle of slick 50 cleaner u add to a full tank of gas and im looking to get some seafoam next. But are there better cleaners or methods to use vs having them take it all apart to clean? thanks.

personally I would yes use some kind of induction cleaner and sea foam is an option but to my past experience with these RLs i would just take the egr off and use 3m throttle body cleaner and clean off any carbon deposit build up and check inside the intake if there are any deposits left behind. the hard to reach stuff would require a coats hanger to scuff it up and clean off with the 3m. driving around with premium gas wont do anything to the deposit that has already clogged up the egr

your local dealer should have a egr flush kit provides an adaptor so you can flush the egr passages without taking anything aprart but removing the egr. they use a special bg solution so clear out the carbon deposits. it can be clogged so bad that it wont even work. its better to find out how bad its clogged by removing the egr and looking in the port. if there is carbon deposit filled to the top you have a bad clog and its hard to get that out. taking apart the manifold is the best way to do it properly. if not a coat hanger or an old speedo cable would work. with the proper solution. brake cleaner works really well. good luck
