So I was leaving work last night around 10 pm and I was stopped at a red light when the oil and battery lights just turn on and the engine dies. I try to start the car a couple of times with no success. After a couple minutes a tow truck pulls up and I have him to it back to my house where I try to start the car again and it starts on the first try. I'm thinking that it has nothing to do with the battery since there were no problems with the electronics in the car and my next oil change isn't scheduled for another 600 miles. Any ideas on whats going on?

 

Does this only happen when the car is hot?

 

Could be any number of things, but I would consider it likely that the main relay is bad. They do wear out and are known for having/developing bad contacts. You can get one from a dealer and replace it yourself. Under dash on driver's side to right of steering column. Forum search will give you more details.

 

what about alternator or starter?
