Check-Engine Lite After Car Ran Hot

My antifreeze was a bit low (about a quart) and I noticed the heater was not giving heat until I drive about 3 miles. Then yesterday the temperature gauge went up about 3/4 of the way and I realized I was low and topped off the radiator. Today the heater is working real well (got heat after only about 1/4 mile) but I noticed the check engine light came on. Does the computer pickup on the engine running hot condition (from yesterday) and now puts up and keeps the check engine lite on for this ? If so, will it eventually go away (as long as the temp stays ok) ? Or should I clear the computer by disconnecting one battery post (for 15 mins) ? Thanks in advance for your expertise !!!!

Hey I wish I could help you but I am a similar issue w/ my car except the engine light came on after letting it sit for two days in the cold. I started the car up it stalled and cut off. I cut it back on with no problem and every since then I have noticed the engine light on. I may try and disconnect the battery for a few minutes and see the light comes back on after the computer clears.....

Hey RC ; I did the battery disconnect (for about 10 mins) last night and today the car is running perfect and NO check-engine light !!!! Ran around all day and still looks good. In your case, I'd try the disconnect and see also if it clears it - worst case, if the check-eng comes back on, then U know something is not right and needs to be checked out. On the other hand, if the check-eng light goes away - then U know it was only a lingering false alert and U can rest easy afterward. BTW - you'll have to reset your radio (with security code), reset the clock and reset up your seat memory afterward. Not a big deal. Good luck !!!!
