Black Tar Like Substance dripping by oil filter
I went to change my oil last night and I noticed that there is a black tar like substance that is is coming from the oil pan right by the oil filter. I kept noticing these black dots on my drive way and did that know where they were coming from. Has anyone else experienced this or know what this might be. Should I be worried. I have a 2000 Acura RL with about 150K miles on it.

While doing the TB/WP change, we found that the plasting from the base of Timing gear had molten and dripped unto the Oil filter as well as part of the body. The Acura Tech said that they have seen it as a common problem on 1G RL. He also suggested not to replace it as the Gear was working fine.
However, since I had the front end torn down for the TB/WP replacement, I went ahead and added a new one ($$$$).
While removing the leftover thing from the car, my mechanic said they were very hard and he had to litterally scrape it off, so if your thing is more like soft tar then it may not be the same thing that I had however the patterns from your picture look exactly what I had.

A torn boot would do that

That does look exactly like CV grease. My two inner boots where torn and the grease was everywhere. Check the boots. If they are torn replace the whole half shaf. I got mine brand new through rockauto for i think it was 90 dollars each? Some places will try and charge you 200 for a re manufactured half-shalf so be careful.
