Anything I need to know about 98 RL
Anything I need to know about 98 RL
I was wondering if the RL's have any major problems like the trans. in the 2g TL's. I'm going to look at a 98 RL with 130k for $5600. He said that it's in excellent condition. Is there anything I need to be aware of on this car? Thanks for any replys.
1999 RL perspective
My 1999 has been trouble free to 93k, but I did just have to replace ABS/TCS brake sensors at $650. I believe the 1998's have also been good, though there were some engineering changes between the years. The owners manual requires replacement of the timing belt at 105k, be sure that's been done. Someone else mentioned replacing water pump also, not sure when that's due. Look at the owner's manual for scheduled maintenance.
Acura service may have a record of maintenance done, if done at Acura - call them with the VIN.
You might also check with CARFAX (costs @$25) for accident etc info.
While the 2gen 3.5RL has been reliable, as with any older car, repairs do arise with age, and Acura service is expensive - labor like $120 - 150/hour.

I have had a 98 RL since December of 2000. Only problems have been the “back-lights” on the dash and the rear power windows. The symptom with the rear windows is that they “grind” when you try to roll them up and they won’t go up.
