96 shifting question

96 shifting question
My 96' RL is shifting a little harder, especially from first to second, and don't know what I should have checked first. I've only owned it since Feb. and don't know if the timing belt has been changed, yet. Would this be an indication that it's time or is this totally unrelated to the way the car shifts gears? I'd hate to think about what it would cost to rebuild the transmission, so I'm seeing if there is something simpler(cheaper) that might correct this problem. It doesn't do it all the time, but has become somewhat noticeable.
Should I change the transmission fluid or filter?

I'd get the transmission fluid changed regardless, its just a good idea.
Second, the transmission mount may be broken. This is a problem on the '91 - '95 Legend, 1st generation 3.2 TL and the RL to an extent.
The second is a bit more expensive, basically the entire motor/tranny is slightly jerking on each shift.
I'd get it looked at for those specific things.
