2000 3.5RL performance mods?

I've read a lot of threads and I'm curious to know what you can do to increase the hp and tq of my rl. I've read about using type ll legend heads and about gutting the rls intake manifold. Some people say that port and polishing the heads and the intake and exhaust ports decreases bottom end tq but increase hp. I want to increase both so any help with proven results and a full DIY would be much appreciated. I'm really wanting around 240-260hp and 240-270 tq if possible.

Port & Polish almost always increases both, I doubt there is much for aftermarket power adding for this car though...

I feel as though mine has plenty of power for anything I need, and it'll never be a fast race car, so I just enjoy the smooth power it has, and use a different car if I want to go fast

There is nothing really you can do, everything would have to be custom, such as turbos, supercharge, exhaust, CAI. This is a luxury car that is meant to stay luxury only, the 4 speed and low red line can't handle much power anyways.

Unless you go forced induction or maybe nitrous there is nothing thats going to get you over 240hp. You might be able to make it to 240hp at the crank but that would be with a complete rebuild, all the na goodies you can throw at it (intake /headers/exhaust/cams/manual trans/etc).

Sorry to come down so hard, but that is the reality of it.

Thanks for the info. I know it's a overly talked about subject. Do you have any advice on a custom turbo and custom headers? And so how does the 2004 tl have the rls 3.5L engine but it has more then 250hp?

04+ TL's and 05+ RL's have more HP due to their different engines. The first gen RL has a C series engine where as the newer models have the newer j series engine in them.

Yes the newer TL has a newer engine with vtec. Ours only has a single cam profile.

As far as camshafts, any company that does custom cams can make a regrind from the camshafts in your engine.

As far as cost of forced inductuon there are too many variables like how much of the work you can do yourself, cheap parts you can find, cheap fabrication. I would figure around 4k plus depending on those variables.

Tranny should hold fine as long as you're not neutral dumping.

Sorry haven't been on lately. Holiday stuff and what not. I hope everyone had a great holiday. And I was wondering if there are any headers that would work on the rl. Is there anything that can bolt on. And is the variable tune muffler that the 02 rl got stock? Does it sound better then the '00 stock rl? And What kind of exhaust system are they using to get the extra hp and tq that they got. Is it still the walker system?

OBX headers for the 91-95 Acura Legend will fit. I do believe you might need an o2 extension cable on the RL though.

THe variable muffle sounds like a stock muffler. When you step on it hard it does have a "slight" growl to it.
