1997 Acura 3.5 RL Premium Clear Coat Finish
I have a 1997 Acura 3.5 RL Premium gold metallic with clear coat finish. The Florida sun has not been very forgiving on her. The paint is in EXCELLENT condition. I feel very strongly that I can just buff out the clearcoat on the trunk, hood and roof of the car, reapply the clearcoat and buff out the entire car. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I refuse to have the entire car repainted. WAY out of my budget.
Thank you,
Howell

yes you definately can just sand down only the clear coat, BUT you must be very careful as you can easily penetrate into the base and mid coat.
to remove the clear coat, i would suggest starting with a 1500 grit to be on the safe side, lower to 1000 if needed but be very gental and cautious. it should be enough to remove the clear coat.
but remember you do not need to sand down the whole body section, just a small surrounding area.
and this is all assuming you are using professional grade clear with at least a 1.3 nozzle tip or smaller air pressured gravity fed paint gun.
I WOULD NOT SUGGEST USING CLEAR COAT PAINT CANS. if you must use cans, at least use professional automotive clear. The walmart clears are much too thick and will not work.
GOODLUCK!

As a canadian journey person, also ase certified i would suggest just getting the car water sanded and polished by a good detail shop. Most people think there paint is gone to crap but is still in very good shape. And this sounds like your problem. Contact a good detail shop and show them first, if they can't do anything, then reclear
