Wheel/tire setup?

Greetings,
Looking for input from the guru's. Im interested in aftermarket wheels for my 2007 RDX. I have done a bunch of research (Azine, RimsnTires,1010,TireRack, TSW...) but still a bit hung up on wheel size. I have seen a few 20" jobs here on Azine which look great but I do not want to get into springs etc.. With that being said I'm looking at a 19" TSW setup, either Interlagos or Nurburging. I would like to go wide (275) but in order to do so would need to go with a 19 X 9.5 offset 41. Questions: is a 19 x 9.5 doable on the RDX? When running the 9.5 through the Rimsandtires config it appears the 9.5 is out of spec for the RDX? Tire setup would be 275/40/19 which according to 1010 is 0.07% of the OEM (245/45/19). Another option would be to go down to a 8.5 with a 255/45/19 (1.28%). I've seen one poster on here go up to a 10" rim so a bit confused on acceptable wheel size? Any suggestions/input are greatly appreciated. Pros and cons of either setup, performance/handling/speedometer/brake issues, rubbing, appearance, tire suggestions (All Season). Currently running the Conti DSW so I have a feel for that tire but open to other suggestions. Alot of cash so I appreciate any and all info.
Thanks

10 is fine, 275 will fit on a 9" as well.

and 19 or 20, you'll have the same wheel gap regardless...

Hey Hatch I was hoping you would respond. So any drawbacks to going to the 19 x 9.5 over the 19 x 8.5? Any performance issues with the wider 275 over the 255? Thanks much!

As long a you have a good offset you should be fine. My +40 9" are just fine and have room to spare...also with either width tire, I've had no issues..I have used both

Hatch,
I should have asked which tire width do you prefer since you have experience with both?

Thanks

I liked the options available with the 275

not sure how that compares to options available for 19's

OP keep in mind the wider the tire you go with also comes with more drag and the more weight. Carefully consider what your objectives are. If you don't care about gas mileage (and lets face it the RDX is no sipper), then a 20x10 would be the best looking and handling option you could choose. I run a 19X8.5 with 245/45 and it is not even close to flush.

Mr. Marco, you say that a 20x10 would be better in handling but wouldn't this setup be significantly heavier than a 19x8.5 setup. More un-sprung weight is very detrimental to handling i've heard.

I am also going through the same dilemma, either a 20x8.5 rim w/ 245/45 (this is 3 lbs lighter than stock setup) tires or 20x10 w/ 275/40 tires (this is 3 lbs heavier than stock setup).

which option would provide the best cornering acceleration? inclusive of everything (initial turn in, mid corner grip, and exit acceleration).

in a 20", you'd need 275/35

Looks like this is going in a different direction but interesting. I was not considering a 20" but rather a 19 X 9.5 with 275/40 +41 offset. Weight was of interest so if anyone can point me towards stock RDX 18" and 19" rims would be greatly appreciated. In regard to fuel drag my though was that the same wheel revolution as the stock wheels the fuel drag would be negligible especially if I reduced overall wheel weight? Please feel free to comment..

Thanks

well you've already calculated OD for 19's @ 0.07%, so you should be set.. Just find some nice light weight wheels you like!!

So I was just about to pull the trigger and then I contacted the Rims-n-Tires guys and they told me that a 19 x 9.5" would be too wide for the fronts but would work for the rears. They suggested I go down to an 19 x 8.5 45offset. So now I'm at a total loss? For those of you who have 19" or 20" /9-10 were there any modifications that were need to be made to make them fit?

Thanks

Mike

I talked with a dealer here in the Denver area and they are going to do a fit test before I take the plunge. Not that I don't trust what you guys are running but just about every dealer I have talked to said they would not recommend the 19 X 9.5 because of rubbing and the 275 would be too wide. I mentioned that I had seen a few guys running 20 X 10 and they were blown away without any additional mods (fender rolling....). Strange that there are not many wheels in the 19 X 9? If the 9.5 ends up not working I am going with Hatches' setup, looks great!!

The RDX will never be a great handling vehicle. The main issue with the RDX is ride height. There is WAY too much weight the top. And at a full 1 foot taller than my 4G TL, I can attest to the vehicles roll factor taking away from the fun.
If you are concerned about getting REAL handling, you have chosen the wrong vehicle to start with.

Just put some 20's on it and make it pretty so when the wife goes through the drive-up at Starbucks, the barista will be envious.

Any day now the wheels should be here TSW Nurburging 19 X 9.5. The tires, Falken FK453 275/40 have arrived and are awaiting their rims. Had brakes done yesterday and bedded those suckers. So far very pleased. Tire/wheel update coming soon.

Finally got these bad boys installed today. More pics tomorrow in better light. After only 30 miles they are a tremendous improvement!! If anyone is interested the stock 18" is a 18 x 7.5 45ET. The new setup, TSW Nurburgring 19 x 9.5 41offset/Falken Azenis FK453: 275/40. As for fit the fronts have ~12mm (based on a 10mm allen tool sliding freely) between tire and shock (pics below). I am hoping this is enough clearance? The rears ~9mm between inside tire and frame. Again hoping this is enough clearance? So far no rubbing so hopefully good to go. Fronts are near flush and rears are ~5mm set in from fender but in my opinion look great. In regards to gas mileage I have not seen a significant drop going from a 245 to a 275. This again is based on the first 30 miles in both "S" and "D" mostly expressway driving 75-80mph. Averaging 18.7mpg. I realize it is not a fair comparison between my previous DSW and the new Falkens but in regards to noise the Falkens are much more quite. The ride is also a bit stiffer. I'm also noticing a quicker acceleration from stop. Good good good feeling about this setup. I greatly appreciate everyones input while I was trying to make a decision.

hey Hatch

thanks!
