Wheel Locks
Wheel Locks
Hey guys. I've searched for answers to my questions but cannot find any. Please direct me to the correct thread if this has already been answered.
The key to my OEM McGard wheel locks has broken so now I'm looking to replace the set. I know I can order a replacement key but for whatever reason, the McGard website isn't working right now so I'm unable to access it. Anyway, in my search for new wheel locks, I've become thoroughly confused. I don't know what type I need. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the thread size is 12 x 1.5 right? Do I need acorn seat? Is that the same as cone? Or do I need ball seat? Looking into the hole it looks like I need a cone seat, but the OEM locks are the ball I believe. Also, whats up with the bulge, or whatever?
Basically, will these fit and work properly? https://smile.amazon.com/Gorilla-Aut...gorilla+71631n
I want to get the OEM wheel locks but they're much more expensive. Like $50 from Acura, and even still $40 from Amazon and no Prime.
Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

Most OEM wheel locks have pretty common keys and only prevent you from removing the rims compared to every thief out there. I changed to Gorilla 12mm X1.50 Acorn wheel locks along with the Spline security lugnuts with key supplied with the rims for my RonJon Legacy7 Liquid Graphite 18" rims (two set of wheel locks to at-least slow them down). I ended up putting double set of two different wheel locks on my MDX (20" RonJon Legacy Type II Custom Graphite face w/ machine lip) and TSX (17" ASA AR1 chrome rims) also.
OEM rims use Cone (rounded) wheel locks and my aftermarket rims use Acorn (taper straight sided) with my rims. Make sure you use cone security lugs for your OEM rims if you switch to the Gorilla brand. Gorilla give you a key reference number if you need to re-order a key later (might be worth ordering a spare key now and storing at home). I keep a set of OEM cone lugnuts in my trunk since the spare still takes cone lugs.

Okay so cone seat and ball seat is the same? I'm not sure I'm going to order the Gorilla locks now because I found a spare set of McGards laying around. They're open ended but they fit fine so I guess those are okay. If I do decide to order Gorilla locks, the link in my OP are wrong though, because they are acorn, correct? I can't even find any Gorilla 12 x 1.5 with ball seats.
But thank you both for the information!

If you still need a set, I have a OEM set from my old '07 RDX just sitting around. (4) locks and (1) matching key. I'll sell them to you for $20 and whatever the shipping cost is. If you want them, I can post up some pics for you.
