Excessive tire wear?
Excessive tire wear?
I've got the original stock Michelins on my 2011 with just under 17,000 miles on them, and I'm down to about 3/32 of tread left-has anyone else noticed this level of tire wear? I wasn't sure what to expect, but thought it would be more than 20k...

I'm assuming you have sh-awd?
I was able to get about 50,000 miles from the OEM Michelins on my 08. The only advantage I have is we only get about 5 inches of precipitation in a year in ABQ and I can run the tires close to the wear bars. I switched to the OEM size Conti DWS and I replaced them after 35,000 miles (2 winters) after the "S" wore off. I did not want to try a third winter because I was planning a trip to Steamboat Springs, CO, for thanksgiving. It turned out it was bright, sunny, zero snow and +45 degrees the whole time and I could have gone until summer/fall 2013 without the “S” traction.
The only problem I’ve had with the Conti DWS is the soft sidewall. Last summer, I got a flat on one tire on the hwy from running over road debris. It took me about 1-1.5 miles to slow down and get off the hwy. By that time, the sidewall was shreds and the tire had to be replaced. Because the other three tires were so worn, I had to purchase two new tires to match tread on the same axel because of the sh-awd. Get the road hazard warranty if you purchase the Conti DWS.

The other two originals were replaced at 25K with 4/32 on one tire and 3/32 on the other, because winter was coming and it snows here.
Are all four tires on your vehicle worn the same/ evenly, to 3/32? Only 17K does sound like excessive wear, but then, the tires on my 2001 Camaro did not last past 17K either.
Are your RDX tires the same Michelins as on my 2009? and perhaps it depends somewhat on driving style? "my" RDX is driven by a grandmother, literally.

I was just a bit surprised since these tires are rated for 50,000 miles...

don't remember how many miles, but my stockers wore out real quick too and started hydroplaning very easy...terrible tires.
