Continental PureContact LS - any insight?
New tire time for my RDX and I'm looking at a few options. The PureContact LS has some solid reviews - anyone out there tried them? I was also looking at the Yokohama Avid Ascend GT but was scared off by quite a few mentions of excessive road noise in the TireRack reviews.
We have mild winters and can get some torrential rain so I usually prioritize wet handling & stopping distance over anything else. Currently have Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus, which have been perfectly fine. I always like to try new brands/models so the Bridgestones would have to be a lot more memorable to earn a repeat purchase.
Others on the list - DWS06, Pirelli Scorpion Verde A/S Plus II. I'd appreciate any insight if you've had any of these tires!

I'm on my 3rd set on Conti DWS 235/55/18 tires for my 08 RDX with +165,000 miles. It was the older Conti DWS the first two sets and the newer Conti DWS 06 the last set back in Dec/18. I have the same tires on my 06 TSX (+165,000) and 11 MDX (+135,000) also because I like them so much for the type of driving and conditions (southwestern temps from single to triple digits, hwy speeds of 70-90 mph, elevation 0-11,000 feet, mountain switchbacks, sun/rain/hail/slush/snow/ice on the same 2-4 hour road trip).
The Pros:
- ultra high performance all season I keep on all 4 seasons
- can handle snow, slush, and single digit cold temps just as well as +110 degrees during summer
- excellent grip in the curves
- very good traction in wet and slushy conditions
- reduced noise levels compared to OEM (OEM get really noisy when they wear down)
- non directional (rotate and cross rotate to improve longevity)
- pretty good road feedback. I can feel what the tires are doing as far as balance and on the curves.
The Cons:
- only 50,000 mile tire life
- can take weeks to months to get in the fall and winter because of demand (ordered in Oct/18 and arrived in Dec/18)
- not the tires fault; but, wear faster on my RDX compared to my TSX or MDX. Got +50,000 miles on the TSX/MDX. To the wear bars by 35-40,000 miles with the older Conti DWS. Not sure if the DWS 06 will wear that fast.
- ice is the weakness of any tire other than dedicated snow tires. Way better than OEM with snow and slush.
I will upgrade the Conti DWS 06 on my 19 MDX once I wear down my Conti CrossContact LX Sport a little more.

Thanks mrgold - you make a compelling case for the DWS06! With our annual mileage treadlife shouldn't be an issue. I'm tempted to put the money toward performance rather than a touring tire with a higher mileage warranty. These tires (like the Bridgestones I have now) will age out before they tread is gone.
