Who has opened their turbo?

Did anyone in here as removed and open there Turbo?
I'm looking for more info on how to separate the Turbo.
Mine is very rusted, I belive the pin visible on the picture may help to stay tithe and keep in the right position.
If anyone can confirm, I would appreciate.

No one?
wow, I'm all alone, no worries. 😉

CSmoney28 02-04-2019 07:50 PM

Sorry 😐 I’m not taking out my turbo unless I have too.

Midnight Mystery 02-04-2019 07:54 PM

Turbos are solid on the K23, not many have been taken apart, you may be alone here...

CSmoney28 02-04-2019 08:53 PM

The only problem is the acuator on the turbo 🐌.

Midnight Mystery 02-04-2019 09:15 PM

LOL at the snail...

Poveiro 02-04-2019 09:56 PM

ok, Thanks
I thought that some would have removed and disassemble theirs, guess not.
In my case the valve stayed open.
So I'm looking into separating the 2 parts to clean, will see where it will take me.

Dont be sorry.
I didn't ask any one to remove there Turbo so they could report to me.
I know there's a big thread about the turbo, so I thought someone would have had removed and open there own.
I will see If I'm going to open or just sand blast the outside to paint and properly clean the moving parts, The turbine doesn't look to have any problem.

There's 2 of this, 1 of them broke but looks repairable by gluing with epoxy, not sure if will get a new or will glue.
parts behind here where the turbo is, are very rusted as you may see.
I have removed the rust on lots of the, painted and cooked the paint to see if it will last the next couple of years of life of this car.
The broken one looked as it was cracked already by the dirt.

Wow 😲, great 👍🏻 job! The metal they use is really bad, it rusts way too easy! I wish they used better metal that was coated and more rust resistant.

There all in bad shape, I'm restoring some and replacing some.
Can you see the pin hole?

I decided not to open the turbine, the circle clip is in a position hard to get, tried to move it but was hard when got at this point I give up since the turbine fan is OK.

Good pictures and write up, keep it coming I know I appreciate it. Sorry, to see the problems your having with yours at this time. Hopefully you can get it all fixed up good. Did you try very long skinny needle nose pliers?

I have a pair of plyers for this, but found that I better leave it alone, since some parts they may get more damage on removing, since the internal parts are well, decide not to take the chance and leave it alone.
Doing an inventory of parts I'm going to replace, there several times more expensive in Canada them US, looking to see if its worded to order from US.
Got my self a spare car so I'm going easy with the repair.
Thanks for showing someone is reading, wanted to be sure some one at least could profit from this knowledge.

Could be better but since this should now last more them the engine or the body, will leave it like that.
To many things to do to put more time then this
Just hope that the sand that got in was all removed, seems that the holes weren't that well sealed and sand went in, used the compresseur to blew everything away very careful, when it will cure in the oven and no humidity, will pass some air again to be sure.
So if someone does this, be sure to seal very well every hole not only for the paint but also for the sand blast.

Great job, what did you use high heat spray paint?

with anti rust.
It should go into the oven later on, I will see if the results are as good as the black one.

CSmoney28 02-17-2019 06:00 PM

Nice, let me know how it comes out.

Poveiro 02-18-2019 03:54 PM

I didn't read well, its rust paint but no heat indicated.
Not as good as the black one as I used on the tubes, that show for high temperature, well I'm just leaving that way, other wise will never finished, the cars are lining up, :what:
Not using this paint again in parts that will come hot.

CSmoney28 02-18-2019 06:16 PM

High Heat Spray Paint 🎨

Yeah, you would need high heat paint for the turbo. Something like this would work the best for next time:

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...f7f3e7d38.jpeg
This will keep the paint on longer and won’t burn/peel off over time.

Poveiro 02-18-2019 08:18 PM

heah, had 2 blacks hight temp, some how I had seen a turbo in red and went to the red, letters were to small to read with the garage light. Going to think if I leave or redo. :annoyed:

CSmoney28 02-18-2019 10:56 PM

If it’s still out of the rdx why not redo it now so it lasts...

I no what you mean, but this is a 2007 RDX in Quebec winter, the body will start, correction the body is starting to take its toll.
I dont think its only my RDX but the frame around the front windows and the mounts of the windows, are very rusted.
part 5 and 6. The 6, mounting was already cut and s new piece welded.

CSmoney28 02-21-2019 09:28 PM

Oh okay, makes sense that it’s that rusted since the winters over here with all the salt and sand really destroy the vehicles here too.
