whistling + stutter at high speed

im trying to figure out whether this recently discovered whistling (at low idle) plus recent "stutter" (2x already in the last 2 days at speed >60mph - unsure whether it's turbo kicking in but doesnt seem like it since a turbo lag still feels different from a split second "stutter") would be more a fuel pump/fuel filter related issue or not? what other signs do i need to look for to confirm this as such. ive read of other people in the forum indicating such whistling problems and have ignored it (did you guys have your vehicles checked out and the dealer stated no issue?).

thanks

I haven't experienced the whistle, though I expect that since I have the K&N Typhoon I might not experience it or maybe not hear it.

I have had what could be described as a stutter, under hard accelleration. It was strong enough I thought something had broken, but later suspected a backfire back throught intake manifold.

I initially suspected a catalytic converter problem, as reported elsewhere on this forum. Apparently if you run the car almost to empty, or run out of gas, the computer leans out the mixture enough to cause damage to the converter (my memory is fuzzy on the details on this.)

I had the Acura dealer check it out, and they found no damage to to the catalytic converter.

thanks john. im observing this condition the next few days/weeks or so. i guess "backfire"/stutter might be "normal" (for my situation) given that mine wasnt that "strong enough" to think something's broken. could be bad fuel (have put in shell 91 no ethanol - that's still avail here in canada) but it could be the start of something so ill keep this in mind if it gets worst. so far i havent had my car run below 1/4th tank ever so doubtful about damage to the cat.

im thinking it's either intake leak or pump. either way, ill play it safe and keep observing. thanks

stoxx - is your RDX new or used? how many miles? there is a documented issue with the cats burning out when the car is driven/run empty many times. The information was confirmed by me on the board from the horses mouth (Acura district rep). I wouldnt necessarily frame the issue in those terms ... if you take it in, dont mention the low gas thing - if acura relates the issue back to that & the cat - you get only 1 replacement.

Sound advice on the running out of gas warning. The Acura dealership asked me if I'd ever run out of gas (never had).

Thanks mike and john. 2010 rdx with 2500 miles on it... Today was a good day no whistles nor stutters even at 65 mph... I'll keep observing but it could be turbo spooling at high speed since the last two times it happened I recall it was in high speed uphill climbs (stutter). On the whistling it could be just me as it happened last nyt as I was pkng the rdx and I opened the door prior to shutting off engine. Today I drove with windows down no whistles whatsoever... And I rarely even go below a fourth of a tank. Prolly only once if i ever did did I reach one eighth. But yeah if there's one thing that turns me off are these acura stealerships... I wish I could complain to Honda investor relations but that would be non biz related already LOL . If I hear anything else I'll be the first to update for sure. Btw so far no new news on rdx or baby mdx (though Honda IR is quite active visiting the investor community these days LOL

Driven in dusty environment? Is the engine air filter possibly clogged?
