Two Issues

My gf's 2007 RDX has a couple of issues I'd like to get some input on.

1) When she puts the key in the ignition, a grinding noise can be heard from the drivers seat, kinda sounds like the power seat motor working. There's no memory seat option on the 07, and we hear it every time right before we start the car.

2) We just experienced a massive snowstorm here in DC, and when my gf took her RDX on open highway, no snow at all on the highway, she said above 60mph there was vibration so severe that the steering wheel shaking (and see it shaking) it felt like the car was coming apart. I thought maybe there could've been snow buildup in the wheelwells so bad that it was affecting the driving, she could've accidentally been in 2nd or 3rd gear, driving with e-brake on, and checking power steering fluid. I also thought maybe VSA and or traction control was limiting her. But the highways were in good condition.

Thanks in advance.

sounds like a balancing issue; perhaps you lost a weight(s) if its happening above 60 that bad - but if its THAT bad, i had an issue with a mazda cx-7 that vibrated horribly in cold weather, like the car was literally shivering.

Is it normal for the flaps to make that sound when adjusting? I bought my RDX used and i'm not sure if i should take it in to get serviced.

We had same 28" massive snowstorm here in Philadelphia area.
some snow and ice build up in wheeel area and shaft will do this.
My was so bad at 30mph.
You need to power wash all the ice and snow off.

yea...any clinging snow inside the wheels will really screw things up as well....worse than losing weights

it shouldn't be noisy, the flaps, but apparently many RDX's have noisy flaps.

anytime we get high snow fall our RDX always shakes around 50. I think it does it on purpose so it gets an overnight in the garage to melt.

Its funny you bring this up. I live in NYC and I had the same exact thing just yesterday. I shoveled my RDX out of the snow and when I got to the highway the steering wheel was shaking like a wheel was out of balance or something. Then after a few minutes it stopped. I couldn't figure it out. You're right, it was probably some buildup of ice and snow somewhere.

Could it be the buildup of snow between the mudflap and the tire? The snow seems to really build up there, and I have to stop and kick each flap until the snow falls off.

it's generally snow/ice build up around the wheel base...it needs to be cleared out quick.
Generally suggestion would be take it to the car wash, let the water blast it out.
