On my '07 it is the little cone knob inside the right gauge cluster (instrument backlight adjustment).

I think that the lights on the steering wheel are dim(er) intentionally.

i cant change my steering wheel dimmer controls either. it's only the dash light intensity that i could. however, ive become very accustomed to the buttons already so im perfectly fine with the rdx. i actually like all these buttons to fiddle with.

The steering wheel lights are/should be dimmer to avoid unnecessary distractions/lights in the eyes of the driver.

I agree the lighting is too low. It's so low that there might as well be no light at all. I got most of the buttons memorized except for the cruise control button, so its something I can live with.

I have 4 cars and to memorize them all is a challenge at best, It's like telling a fighter pilot you can't luminate controls cuz it might interfere with your flying ability but you have to fly several  so take your best guess. For me It takes me more time to try to read them so that takes my eyes off the road longer. All im saying is i want a choicethat's all just a choice! ... What would that cost to add? $1 $2? Cars cost 1/5 msrp to build, so a 50k vat cost 10 k to build.

Actually that's where it comes from I believe, plane technology, where they try to avoid unnecessary glare in the eyes of the pilots. Now, the steering wheel controls DO ILLUMINATE, you can't just have the intensity you want I guess.

One Saab innovation, inspired by the company's roots in aeronautics, was the 'Black Panel' feature, which extinguished most instrument panel lights at the touch of a button, to eliminate distraction from dash lights during night driving. While active, this feature permitted darkened instruments to re-illuminate themselves when they required driver attention. This feature was later renamed 'Night Panel' in Saab 9-3 and Saab 9-5 models. In the Night Panel version, only the speedometer will be illuminated up to 87 mph/140 km/h, The remainder of the scale will be illuminated if the speed of the car exceeds 84 mph/135 km/h.[3]

perhaps reducing glare at night is the idea of not having bright lights in the steering wheel of the Acura.
