Rear Wheel Bearing

Hey guys. Long time no post . I've been busy getting married, big work project, etc. Good to be back.

Anyway, just wanted to report my first problem with the RDX. For a few weeks now, I've been hearing a pretty loud humming noise, regardless of speed. I finally took it in last week and they said it's the left rear wheel bearing. They had to order the part, so I guess they lubed it up pretty good, because I didn't hear the noise on my short trips over the last few days.

However, it was back as of this morning on my 85 mile commute. I almost turned around and went home a couple times, but didn't. I called the service dept when I arrived, made my appt for Wed at 8am, and mentioned that I drove quite a distance this morning and the car is now vibrating. I had to keep it around 70mph to avoid too much vibrating today. I asked if I should not be driving long distances like this, and they didn't seem concerned, even said it might be a wheel weight. Who knows. I'm not sure if I should try to drive it home tomorrow? What do you think? Towing shouldn't be a huge issue being that I have AAA, plus towing on my insurance, and Acura's roadside assistance until 4 yrs....it's more a question of safety and inconvenience. Although, it would be REALLY inconvenient if the wheel fell off, or if I damage other components.

This is what got me nervous:

I was afraid that would be the consensus. I just wish the service guy had told me not to drive the car that far. I wasn't aware it was such a big safety issue.

For peace of mind, I took the car to a local dealer here near the office. I went on a 10 minute road test with the service manager, who confirmed the noise but was perplexed at first because it should not happen on a car this age (he said it happens, but is very uncommon). He said I should be ok to drive home. He also checked the tires and said they are wearing evenly, but I'll need new ones in ~5000 miles. So I guess I should start reading reviews soon.

Phew

We have an '11 also. I am looking at upsizing tires to Goodyear Eagle F1 255/55R18 on stock rims. Stock tires are 235/55R18. I am looking for improved traction. Has anyone tried upsizing on stock rims? Will they clear or rub?
