Pumping oil out?

Hi all- odd problem with my 08 RDX. Mechanic tells me last guy who did my oil change cross threaded my oil plug, so now he’s not sure if he’ll be able to screw it in after draining.

Instead of dealing with whatever happens after I take out the drain plug, I’m thinking I will pump the oil out the dipstick hole with one of those fluid extractor pumps as seen on Amazon.

I’ve watched a couple videos and it seems super easy and straightforward so of course I am skeptical and have some questions that only fellow 1G RDX drivers could answer:

- I’ve seen videos saying this pumping method only works on cars with top mounted oil filters. Why? Is this true?

- is there any problem removing the oil this way? Any potential damage to engine/ components? Can’t think of any reason why but must ask.

- should I be worried about not pumping out ALL the oil? Surely when you drain it from below it doesn’t drain ALL the oil anyways?

- any suggested solves for this drain plug problem? I’ve thought about having a machinist re tap the drain plug hole, but worried about metal shavings getting into the reservoir, should I be?

Thoughts appreciated thanks all in advance
