More light in rear storage area

Does anyone have ideas on how to get more light in the rear storage area?
That tiny light on the side is a joke-it doesnt even automatically come on when u open hatch.I hope they put a new auto light in for 2008, but for the rest of us with 2007's what are we to do?

Have you checked the switch on it? It can be set so it goes on when you open the hatch. That said, you're right, it is small...

Is the light an LED? If so it MAY be possible to replace it with an LED that is brighter.

It is not an LED but I replaced mine with the brightest LED I could find and it is still horrible. They really need a roof mounted light for it to be effective.

And when the light is in the ON position, it will turn off and on when the tailgate is closed and open.

It may be the single worst thought out item I've ever seen in an Acura, a company known for its ergonomics and functionality. But of course it is still just a rear cargo light and it would never keep me from buying the vehicle.

The problem is that this type of thinking on the part of a manufacturer is a slippery slope. Small details that taken individually do not affect a decision to purchase can add up.

Yeah, I have to say the storage area light is pretty useless. They need to add a second light on the other side or don't both putting a light and just put in a flash light holder.

I replaced the cargo area bulb with an LED also with same results as everyone else. Anyone considered adapting somethiing like this?

maybe too much light? Works off 12volts so so seems like it would be easy enough to connect to the existing switch/wiring back there.

Problem with a light on the roof would be that when the cover is attached for the cargo hold, it would block the lamp.
What does the MDX have back there?

I think it just needs a brighter light. many cars just have a single light on one side or the other and they work just fine.

I don't think the trunk light is all THAT dim but, if it were a problem, I would put one of those stick-on "DOT-it" lights that are about the size of a hockey puck, and you push the center to turn it on. They have 3 VERY bright LED's and, stuck to the bottom of the cargo cover, would illuminate the trunk nicely. I have them in the bed of my Tacoma.

looks like a nice solution. I was thinking of mounting them to the side of the cargo area so the cargo privacy thing doesnt block the light

I bought one of these, but it seems to be horribly designed. After you mount the thing, how do you change the batteries? Isn't the battery door is glued shut when you mount the light?

From the Sylvania web site:

"What makes a DOT•it light stick?
A unique 3M adhesive on every DOT•it light sticks and re-sticks to practically any surface, without marring. The adhesive can withstand extreme temperatures from zero to 120 degrees. "

Light mounting idea

I mounted two of those push on /off lights in the back of mine - Target is selling a box of 3 for $5. They were with the seasonal automotive stuff, I guess they are marketing them as Christmas gifts. Anyway, each one has 3 LED bulbs and they do a good job lighting up the back. They look IDENTICAL to the DOT-it lights, but they're not 10 bucks each - not a typo, they are three for five dollars at Target. I havn't tried the Sylvania's, so I don't know how they compare, but the look like a repackage of the same item to me.

Here's a mounting trick:
Buy some Velcro strips with the adhesive backs and cut a piece from the "hook" side - the "scratchier" side - and stick it to the back of the light. Then just push the light onto the carpet on the side anywhere - the carpet acts as the "loop" side of the Velcro and it's actually somewhat hard to pull off. The Velcro grabs so well, it will pull the little door right off that hides the access to the top of the shock mounts... So I moved it over a little when I put it back in...

Two are enough back there so I used the third to supplement the lighting in the center console. In there, I just stuck a piece of the fuzzy "loop" side of the velcro inside on the left to mount the light to. Works great - and doesn't cost much to set up.

enjoy

I have the 2007 RDX. You have to put the cargo light into 'Auto' mode. Then it will turn on when you open the trunk.
But it is very weak as you said. That plus the black fuzzy cargo room make it impossible to get enough light in there.

I've tried 2types of LEDs but incandescent hyperwhite blue bulb seems the brightest to me. I don't know if its 40% brighter (stock is 12v5w 921 is 12v7w) but its definitely brighter. $8.99, can't complain.
