How do you remove wheel weight 'tape'?
Is there anything better than 3M wax/ tar remover?
OK, had my tires rebalanced. After tech removed the original factory weights, the double-sided tape was left on the wheel. The tech added new weights in another place on the wheel.
The tire store tech used a thin knife to cut off the old weights, no damage. The Acura dealer apparently used a screwdriver (did not see it done) and damaged the wheel paint (which is why I went to the tire store for the second tire).
So I 'scraped' off the old black double-sided tape: took me most of an hour. I used a small can of 3M wax/ tar remover, and a plastic 2-inch wide wall-board spatula as a scraper.
I also tried goo-gone but did not work as well as the 3M stuff (which smells pretty bad). I also have some 3M spray version, but did not want to use that on the wheel (it sprays everywhere). I used the spray stuff to debadge my Z28 Camaro, but that was on a body panel.
Anything better, or easier to use?
The tire store just puts the new weights over the old tape if necessary (because of location). They do not bother to remove the old tape, which may be good thing (less wheel damage).
