A/C Not Working

Hi everyone,

I bought my new-to-me '09 RDX in November right before winter started, so wasn't able to test the A/C when inspecting. Turns out it blows hot air.

I read a few other threads that pointed to replacing the engine bay relay, so I did that today hoping it would solve it, but unfortunately no change.

When I push the A/C button, I can hear the clutch engage, but the air temp stays the same. Anything I can diagnose DIY, or should I just bring it in?

My air sometimes works. I would say most of the time it works. But I don't hear the clutch engage. When it engages, it works. I replaced the freon last year and it worked more often. There is no rhyme or reason. I can get in it in the morning and it isn't working. I can hit the button a nunch of times and it comes on.

First option is to check refrigerant pressures. GF 2010 CRV was intermittently blowing warm. Thought it was going to be compressor clutch relay. Turned out to be low refrigerant. One half can, and it works super cold.

Check pressure 1st

My RDX was low on R134a. I had a crack in high pressure hose (rubber). After hose was replaced, and put under Vacuum, then refilled again. it worked fine

Replace refrigerant it acts as the lubrications for the system.

Then check the hoses for cracks or leaks if needed replace them.

Then check the compressor to see if the clutch is spinning when you have the ac on, if not it’s stuck at this point and you need to replace the compressor.

My mechanic said I needed a new clutch. When the clutch was engaged, I added refrigerant. That seemed to fix it. A good test is to bypass the relay (youtube it) and see if the clutch engages.

If your system is below the freon threshold, the clutch won't engage. I probably have a leak somewhere.

Check your hoses and fitting like I said you might have a cracked hose. Also the Freon is a lubricant not just a refrigerant so I could be low and cause the clutch not to move. But remember the rdx is known to have a bad compressor, clutch, and ac system. They had a recall and issued an extended warranty for these very reasons.
