2008 rdx
2008 rdx
Im having downshift issues with my 2008 rdx. It generally happens in higher gears. It stays in higher gear and wont downshift in a timely manner. I.e. it jumps and sputters when i try to accelerate, because its in to high of a gear. it eventually downshifts, but i've been manually doing it with the paddles to avoid this. Any suggestions or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hello Mr. Mechanic, my car is broken, can you fix it? At least the mechanic has direct access to your vehicle. We don't. The mechanic can look at your vehicle, and gather most of the following data, we can't. We are not mind readers.
Info, info, info, or no-one can help you. So its a '08, now your problem is the trans:
miles on vehicle
type of ATF
ever changed the ATF? what kind? brand? how many times? mileage at change, if any?
problem occurs in which gears? all of them? when in 5th or 4th? speed of vehicle? how much throttle? speed of vehicle when you expect a downshift?
conditions in which problem occurs, such as in first 10 miles, only when ambient is very hot or very cold or does not matter? or only after vehicle warms up, i.e., after minimum of 10 miles of driving, etc.
first vehicle owner or 2nd or 3rd or nth?
MY GENERAL OPINION: change the ATF,
at least two drain-fill every 15K miles if mostly (90%) city driving (or one every 10K miles),
one drain-fill every 15K miles if city/highway is 50:50
one drain-fill every 30K if mostly (90%) highway driving.
You would also be well advised to add an inline filter, is the vehicle is driven 90% city.
Yes, I am well aware of what Honda says, and also that Honda has lost 3 class action lawsuits over failing transmissions in various models, over the past decade. True, not so much trans problems since around 2008 or so.
JMOs
P.S. you will receive more responses if your post TITLE describes your quesiton or problem - I only had a look at your post because I was bored.

I have a 08 RDX with +87,000 miles. I change my ATF every 30,000 miles (I don't wait for the M.I.D. to tell me). So far, no issues with the RDX’s 5AT. My 06 TSX has +97,000 miles and I keep to the same schedule of ATF oil changes. Before my 90,000 oil ATF change was due on the TSX, it was having the exact same problems you were having on your RDX. The problem went away 100% after an ATF change at the dealership. I may up my ATF oil change schedule for both vehicles to dcmodels suggestion since the TSX was giving me a warning shot.
