2007 RDX takes 3-4 seconds to start

Hey All!

I am new to the boards I just recently purchased in 2007 RDX with the Technology package. When I turn on the ignition, the car generally takes 3-4 seconds to turn on. I was wondering is this normal for this car? It happens every time even when I turn on and then off the car. I live in Minnesota just in case the coldness has anything to do with it. Thanks to all!!

The RDX clearly takes longer to start than many other cars I've observed. Mine does it too now and then and the colder it is out many times the longer it takes. Once in a blue moon mine will take 5-10 seconds of cranking which seems like an eternity!!! Luckily this happens only vary rarely now. It happened more when my car was brand new. IMO the stock battery may not have enough cranking amperage for the engine/turbo setup.

i used to own a toyota corolla and had the same problems... what i did was to press the accelerator once before starting and presto, no more hard cranking and the car started immediately... note howver that was 15 yrs ago... i learned that bec the corolla manual stated what to do... im too new in the rdx world to know what to do in these cases but my corolla experience may help?

take this with a grain of salt if this would lead to more problems... ill have to check the rdx owner's manual too

check the water level for your battery, also may want to try replacing the battery it self. It's pretty crappy.

Optima batteries are junk, watch out for leaks (bad seals).

Mine takes long to start in the cold. I have a dealer installed remote starter and it sometimes doesnt turn over the first time in the cold. The stock battery that the RDX comes with is terrible for cold cranking. That's all it is. My other car has a Duralast Gold battery and that is probably the best battery for cold starts. A little expensive though.
