Removed Intake - Too Loud? What's wrong with me?

So about 2 months ago I installed the Weapon-R intake on my RDX. At first I couldn't believe how much fun it was to drive around. The sound it made was well worth the price alone.

However over the last week or so my girlfriend (who drives the car most often) has been giving me grief over the volume of the intake. I gave in to the nagging and removed it. I'm sitting here today wondering what's happened to me! I drive an S2000 with a rediculously loud exhaust on it. But I can't deal with the RDX's intake? I'm going soft....

So has anyone else removed an aftermarket intake due to it being "too loud"?

Nope - I have the weapon R intake and switch it out with a AEM filter.

It is a little noisier than stock but not by much. (Perhaps a heatshield to cover the filter)

What made you go with the AEM filter? Just better quality?

Wife wanted me to but I said that's the sound of saving money. She likes it now and it's become white noise.

An intake shouldn't even be that noticeable unless u have a lead foot and are getting on the throttle all of the time...u should have kept it....

Agreed^ I wanted to take mine off after the first week when I got sick of everyone crankin' their heads at me in downtown. Then I realized it is a great gas saving feature. If you keep it quiet by rollin' like you're driving next to 5-0, you'll save gas. I'm never taking mine off.

Yeah, my wife didn't ask me to removed it; she just worried about the sounds it was making. It doesn't just make the suction sound, you can hear the entire inter workings of the turbo. Example; suction, suction release, turbine wheel engage, basically everything that goes on in the turbo during compression. I told her "you will only hear it when you boost".

I got it from JDM Password, they don't currently make an intake for the rdx. So I looked for the closest fitment style they had and came up with the Honda Fit JDM Dry Carbon Fiber PowerChamber Intake 07-08 Fit looked about right. With a battery relocation kit the hybrid fitment worked great!

Were you able to support it somehow? ...or is it just kinda hanging on the MAF? What does the inside look like? open, or is it "2" shaped? 3" filter?

it's nice man.

It's supported at the filter end. Carbon fiber, 3" at the MAF end and 4.5" at the filter.

You are really worried about the warranty huh? If it's a simple bolt on part it won't void warranties. Cutting your exhaust up will void the factory warranty, if you have one, on your exhaust only. Bolting up an intake will not.

I just noticed you are local to me. I'm in Lorain!

I'm a little concerned about the sound also, as this is the first "luxury" vehicle we've owned. All my other cars have received the "I/H/E" trestment without a second thought. I will prob be putting the intake on and hoping she doesn't cry about it later, lol.

I'm in Cali and I want a long tube carb approved true cai for our '11.

My current setup...

I haved asked AEM to sell bits that I can couple together for an RDX cai.

Of course they said no.

(my email follows)

Hello,

As I see you do not offer an intake for an '11 Acura RDX is it possible to purchase pieces to improvise a c/a intake that may be routed as I choose?

Could I buy -

2 ea 3"x 2' straight pieces, piece w/maf mount, various bends, couplers, and filter?

Is this possible?

Would an order qty of enough for ten kits make a difference?

Thanks for considering

"Thank you for your interest in the AEM products. Unfortunately we don’t sell any universal pipes and adapters. We only offer the filters as universal applications.

Since we have partnered with K & N , I can recommend a kit that is specifically designed for your application.
K & N kit 69-0017TS and produces 8.77 HP

Click on the link below for more info.

If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail.

Thank you,

(end of email)

If I do the work to fab a cai I would have to put the stock one back on for smog test every 2 yrs.

No carb # = fail visual test.

CAI for '11

(my email to cp-e)

We have an '11 RDX.
Is it possible to buy an additional section of tubing and a coupler to
combine with your cp-e intake to improvise a cai that may be routed as I
choose?

I have an inlet in my fog lite grill and want the filter relocated...
Thanks

Cars are too smart now. A big change like that will mess up the reading at the mass air flow sensor. No we do not recommend that.

Very Respectfully,

Josh Adams

'11 RDX cai

Follow up email-

Thanks for the quick reply Josh.

Is it possible to discuss the issues this could cause and how to possibly overcome them?

If so would you be the best person to discuss this with?

Thanks

His reply-

Tuning would be required.

Very Respectfully,

Josh Adams

Mine bitched about the noise from the cp-e, so I showed her the parts box with the old intake and said "have at it." She's yet to drive my throaty beast again.
I have grown to love the sound.
The 1G RDX was intended to be a sporty little CUV aimed at buyers like me who want room for camping gear on the weekends and a firm ride with more power than the CRv. So many people thought the ride was too harsh and the gas mileage too low that Acura turned this perfect canyon carver into a fucking Subaru. If you are one of the people who thinks the ride is too jarring, you'll never like the cp-e intake.

I'm all good with the way it drives personally. Aside from the lower-than-expected gas mileage, I love it. Seriously though, I averaged 20 mpg highway on a trip this past weekend. The old Escape we traded in got better mileage than that. Anyways, it will eventually be mine once I decide to get over my Si. I just don't want to "ruin" it for my wife, lol.

I'm really interested in the CP-E, but want to hear from owners if it is a bitch to remove the filter for cleaning.

should be the same for any intake.. one screw clamp and pull off the filter.

Less effort than the stock box.

Ok, from the pictures it looks like CP-E's goes down and sorta pass the battery and towards the from grill. K&N looks much more open.

You have to remove the entire pipe to get to the filter.
