RDX light weight cat back exhaust

I have been thinking about doing a cat back exhaust for some time now. My design is to replace the center resonator with a muffler (magnaflow/flowmaster), and have it side exhaust like a NASCAR.

It should save weight, the slim NASCAR exhaust tip should make ground clearance a non-issue, and since the car is a turbo the sound should not be that loud.

I took the rear muffler off and tested the sound with just the center resonator and you could only hear the intake sound (K&N CIA).

Anyone place their muffler where the center resonator is?
Anyone delete the center resonator when they did a cat-back exhaust?

Your experiences/feedback/thoughts are welcomed.

TIA.

1) What's nascar?

2) Single side or both sides out?

3) How loud/harsh will that be?

4) How much wt will you shave?

5) Rocket man are you my lone Cali brother?

1.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nascar-SCCA-...a277d6&vxp=mtr

2. Single out of passenger side, to keep weight down to a min.

3. Should not be harsh at all, I took the rear muffler completly off to see how loud it would be and it was NOT loud at all. I had more intake noise (K&N) than I did exhaust noise!

4. Maybe 5-10 Lbs...hehe...I know not much weight and it is even on the wrong end of the car...

5. It sure looks that way.

Did you run it all the way up to speed w/o the cat back?

No cat back, just muffler. The resonator was still in place. I was trying to simulate a "single" muffler set up. The resonator could be quieter than a muffler though.

Yes, ran it all the way up.

Oop, missed that.

So you were ok with the sound of the resonator w/o the muffler and want single side outlet.

Is either the muffler or the resonator more restrictive?

If not pick out your tip and take it to a local reputable muffler shop and have them fab a mandrel bent s/s pipe to bolt to the flange after the b pipe and running out under the pass side rocker panel with all proper support and clearence.

At the very least you reduce the number of turns in the pipe = less pipe loss/restriction.

Did you record your muffler off run? Share?

No sound clip, it sounded stock. I don't know which is more restrictive.

You are correct, I am going for the KISS concept.

Rocket - with a side outlet what will fill the stock exhaust openings in the rear fascia?

A light weight option using the stock exits is to have a ti y-pipe fabbed up to delete the muffler, bolted to the b-pipe outlet.

It'd be a short run and may not weigh much more than your side outlet. You could even make them equal length. Then burnish it with scotch-brite pads.

If it sounds ok?

Anyone have a clip of open exhaust just out of the b-pipe?
