How many RDX owners have modded their car?

Just wondering how many of us have started modding their RDX.

I'm looking to do wheels first and I'd like to get a good idea of the look between 19" vs 20" and more importantly, the right offset to get that aggressive stance. RonJon's wheel specs is 19x8.5 32mm offset, but can the RDX handle anything more aggressive or is that the limit? I know tire size also plays an important role, but just for arguement's sake. I'm leaning towards 19x8.5" SSR competitions in black. Should look good on my white RDX. I'd like to go 20" but I haven't seen anything both light (20-23 lbs) and asthetically attractive.

RonJon's thread about his concept RDX is very compelling. His concept body-kit is a great start IMHO. Anyone else know of an aftermarket kit in the works?

Hey Krazy,

Check out this thread of aftermarket wheels:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...8&page=1&pp=25

I just ordered a set of 19" RJ Legends like the ones RDXControl put on his RDX. I think they look stunning, and I can't wait to put them on. I'm going to put summer tires on them and keep the stockers for the winter. I'm also getting a CAI from CP-E, which should probably arrive next week sometime. Next will be an exhaust.

I'm mostly going for minor mods, nothing too drastic, I don't want to lose any drivability. Good luck, and have fun with your mods.

The 19" legends caught my eye as well...but does anyone have weight specs for it?

Got a link for the cp-e intake?

Thanks for the feedback!

will have the eibach kit and hondata flash within the next few. waiting on rims till the weather gets better. then will put on 19 TSW Votex.

waiting on the exhaust for Acura TL Parts. interested in that if it offers up some good tunes and performance.

beyond these things, no other plans for the truck, nothing else exists anyways. intake hasnt been proven to be compatable yet with hondata reflash (they havent tried it on an RDX w/flash), however this could change as hondata has an intake & may makea flash with it

I don't have weight specs on the RJ Legends, but Ron said they are lighter than the 18" stockers.

I think what really makes the car "sit right" is the offset. You can slap on 20" wheels but at the end of the day if the offset is too conservative, the only view the car will look good at is from the side. Moreover I don't think an SUV (or CUV, whatever) looks good with very low profile tires. It's a truck, make it look like one! Just MHO.

Personally, I'm leaning towards a light-weight (under 20 lbs) set of 19"s with an aggressive an offset as I can get without rubbing. I think that would make the car "sit right."

Don't the 18" stockers weigh 26 lbs or something? "Lighter than the 18" stockers" isn't saying much then. Has anyone personally weighed the wheels?

I've never weighed the stock wheels, but I will weigh the RJ's when I get them and I'll let you know.

The OEM wheel weighs 26 lbs. The OEM Michelin weighs 29 lbs.

Also keep in mind, if you go to a 19" wheel that is lighter than stock, you will likely offset it with the new rubber.

it's tough to find a 19" rim that isn't even moderately heavy. Shoot, at Tirerack.com I was checking out wheels and the ones they specified as "light-weight" were still 26lbs.

As far as mods. I've got the CPE intake coming. At some point I will get a turbo-back exhaust, once one is readily available, and then hopefully a Hondata reflash once it's made to work w/ both breathing mods.

I'll be getting Eibach springs once it warms up and I won't mind working in the garage and next fall I'll get some 19's w/ wider than stock tires (and throw snow tires on the stock rims)

Oh, and a blow-off valve...preferably with a turkey-call on it just for the hilarity of it all.

the SSR's seem to be great for low weight rims.

after looking at a bunch, ive come to the general conclusion that the rotors on this truck are retarded. they look so small and incapable when u see the pics of aftermarket rims that expose them. really looks kind of bad, short of having to upgrade rotors/brakes etc....im rethinking the Vortex's cuz of this. may go with the estrolis, they cover up more

Lightbulb quisssssssssioooooooo!

Just got my CP-E X-cel intake loving every moment of it right now. the psssssshttttttt of the turbo is music to my ears. I haven heard my 10 speaker els in a while due to heavy turbo whiiining!
Future mods include but are not limited to: Brake upgrade, hondata, exhaust, rims. The potential is only waiting to be tapped.

Your ride looks great jasijay, all you need is the roof rack and you will be officially pimped. By the way what and how did you use to paint the front grill black...?

Thanx I appreciate the compliment! I have been debating on the roof rack so I just got the wind deflector to see what that does for me.

The front grill was taken off and sent to a paint shop and painted the same body color, that it. i think it adds a level of Mystique to the truck....

nice. I'm tempted to remove all the chrome from my front grille and just paint it a flat black . Dunno, though. I'd be awfully bummed if it came out looking bad...particularly on a white car

i'm in the same boat ...

i personally don't like chrome ... on any color for that matter ...

i was going to remove everythign chrome/silver on the car (ie: grill, door handles, etc...) and have them spend a day at the powdercoaters ...

still thinking about it .... i think it will look much better professionally done, rather then rattle canned .... just my

Just take it to a trusted body shop, they can color match it and it shouldn't cost that much, mine charged me $100 for the piece and it matches perfectly!

Jasi,

I've seen many cars with smoked tails, it looks good--one question though, how?

There are two ways, both have pros and cons
1) Spray tint - it is essentialy a spraycan that you just "paint" your lights
2) Actual Tint film - this is the same as you would use on your windows
the spay verison could be messy and uneven if you don't know what you are doing. I would suggest taking it to a sound and speed shop and ask them if they have done it. if it is done right, well you can see it looks great. the only other downside at least to me is, it isn't as shiny.
the film version takes a lot of patience and skill, once again take it to a pro and let them do it. I know there are some vendors on E-bay that are selling precut film to go right on the lights. This does make it easier but stil a PITA!
