Hondata RDX Reflash - End User Reports!!!
#41
I talked to Hondata at this year's SEMA show. The reflash was still rather new then, and the guy I talked to didn't know if Acura could detect the modification.
Can Acura detect the modification? Does anyone have any experience with Acrua refusing a warranty claim based on the Hondata reflash?

The RDX torque curve is reasonably smooth both before and after the reflash. Some people may not notice much difference. Some people may.
Bottom line here is that most butt dynos are way of the mark. You need to measure the differences on the dyno before and after. That or put it up against another, stock RDX.

If I need a dyno to tell the difference then what good is the reflash..??

Hondata's point is totally valid and on the mark. Butt dynos are simply not a consistent point of reference. Ever try to calibrate one? Making a comparison on the dyno or to another RDX, or even smoothing a power curve to be consistent over peaky and thereby producing measurable (non-butt dyno) results, I find no fault in the logic.

If there is no WOW factor......

Sir,
The fact that there may be people who couldn't tell any difference is irrelevant. I've gone similar routes with past rides and the gains were measurable and gratifying.
You know the adage - speed costs money-how fast do you want to go? The enhancements reported on this site and elsewhere may not WOW you personally, but they add to the driving experience and are obviously worth it to those who make the effort.
Question: do you drive an RDX? If not, what do you drive?

I think the major enjoyment most of us get from these enhancements is actually related to the personalization of vehicles that otherwise everyone could have a copy of.
While I think the SH-AWD is the absolute best implementation of an AWD with a sideways mounted engine I haven't been able to see myself in one due to the inordinate "clutter" of the dash/instrument panel.
You can also find me at teamseattle.com if you like.

an RDX does not have a wow factor from the dealer. it's more like, "hmm, that's not bad for an suv." how much wow would 20 make on your porsche? your butt dyno prolly won't feel much of a difference. is your porsche even modded, if so, have you ever done a reflash?

Given the level at which you can order a Porsche, factory delivery even, it comes with more than enough WOW and personalization for me. But I did swap to those BBS 3-piece lightweight racing wheels within an hour of picking it up at the east coast POE and have converted all street/parking/tail/stop/dril lights to LEDs.
Oh, at the Porsche factory each engine is dyno'ed before it goes into a car. For a 300HP engine plus or minus 10% HP variation is acceptable. So, do I have 270HP or 330 HP...??
When I came off the track at Daytona every one wanted to know how fast I had been...
I hadn't a clue.
My attention had been elsewhere.
Regretably my wife paid far too much attention to the speedometer on the autobahn.....but there were times....

- An improvement in power and torque across the rev range.
You could also try a stopwatch or a drag strip to measure your change in acceleration.

Only one reflash available?
Earlier today I called Hondata to inquire about reflashes. They said they only had one available for sale. I asked about the reflash for the Church exhaust mod - they said it wasn't for sale. I asked about the CP-E kit, if they received it and were working with it. They said they could not comment. End of conversation. Very odd.
I sent a PM to Hondata 4/20 and haven't gotten a response. Anyone have any information? Does anyone have both the CP-E intake and Hondata reflash and measured Air/Fuel ratio?

Then 'bout the mods. There are: CAI with the altered diameter, upgraded exhaust, possible TMIC/FMIC upgrade etc. Just wondering whether all those can be supported by Hondata reflash or it just shifts redline, raises the boost and reprogramm some timings?
Strange position for a company with such a reputation

So okay, count me in. I'm with the reflash for about 200 miles and... I like it. Nothing very specific. Just as everyone replies in this thread. I have a bit better mpg figure, somehow car feels lighter and my redline rocks now
Still I'm waiting for the exhaust upgrade and hope that info below is actual.

A custom reflash has been designed in conjunction with Church Automotive to work with with their 3" exhaust system. The exhaust + Church Auto reflash adds 40 HP over stock. Read about it on the Temple of VTEC. This reflash is only available for purchase from Church Automotive Testing.

Does anyone have a data log or did anyone make a graph of the AFR's on cruise and wot? Interested in the difference between stock and this reflash. Also, be sure the dealer doesn't reflash your car if you ever go in for service

Look I know we have some people in this forum that seem to bad rap everything anyone says like wwest but they dont know what there talking about since they dont have an rdx or a reflash but I can speak from experience I have the hondata reflash and the Church automotive custom exhaust and I could tell you its fast in auto mode but a beast in sport drive mode with a 7200 rev limit and I have driven it hard on a long haul road trip and it would give any car a good run I have tried it these mods our worth every dime and also there is no way the dealer could tell it is reflash unless they drive it this my second hondata reflash I had one in my 06 civic si and have never had any problems from honda or acura dealers as a matter of fact I had my 3rd gear fixed thru honda due to it grinding and I took it in with the reflash and honda test drove it with no problems .

Dynolicious is an app on the new I-phones you can get for $13 that basically generates this data... it sounds cheezy, but it is fairly accurate based on comparing this data to the published information on several cars we have tested with this app!!

I paid extra to have my ECU sent overnight both ways (about $80 for shipping total) for my 08 RDX. I dropped the car off on Monday at lunch and picked it up on Wednesday at 4pm.
$295 + $80 shipping + tax/labor < old reflash price of $600

$394.18 total for me. About $367 to the local dealer/Hondata and about $27 for overnight express to ship it to them. I printed the shipping label and scheduled a front door pickup from www.usps.com. Picked up sat. ~11:30am and it was delivered and plugged in before high noon on tues. I'm fortunate enough to work remotely from home and I just made sure I had all the necessities for the laid back weekend aroudn the house. I'm sure it goes without saying, but no regrets here!
