You may be making, have made, a mistake.

Many LEDs can be made BRIGHTER by supplying 150% of maximum rated current (power dissapation, really) but with a low pulse width duty cycle resulting in an average current supply of 100%.

Even moreso the 150% current flow might only have a 20% dutycycle thereby maintaining good BRIGHTNESS but lower power consumption, less HEAT to dissapate and thus longer lived LEDs.

The light from a lightning strike is VERY brief but very NOTICEABLE.

My LED DRLs flash at 4Hz when the horn is operating to "alert", get the attention of, oncoming drivers beyond hearing range.
