XM/Radio Antenna

Anyone know how flexible the XM antenna is? I need to pick up some plywood and put it on the roof rack and realized the the rubber antenna sticks up higher than the roof rack.

I havent checked, but I assume the antenna just unscrews. Have you tried this?

Just to be safe, I would unscrew the tip and protect the base of it also.

Yes, it unscrews easily. Done this twice already each time prior to washing.

Antenna Flex

I always leave it on when I put my surfboard on the roof rack. The antenna flexes about half way down. The service guy at the Acura dealer said it wasn't a problem and so far the antenna always springs right back when I take my board off.

I'm trying it - worst case is I have to get a new antenna, which should be covered under warranty.

Even if it wasn't covered under warranty, the antenna only costs $7.

OCRDX, Are you using the OEM roof rack for your board? Any issues with that? works well? I have 2 boards 7 10' and 9 feet.

The Owners Manual says something about unscrewing the antenna before putting your car through a car wash.

Probably good advice, although I haven't taken mine off to go through the car wash and I haven't had a problem......yet. It does come off very easily though. Does anyone know if you do unscrew the antenna do you lose anything while driving? Does XM still work? AM/FM radio reception? Does XM work when you have your surfboard over the antenna?

I actually drove for a couple of minutes without the antenna and I was able to receive XM without noticeable loss. Maybe I was lucky enough to get a ground-relayed XM signal for a while.

The OEM roof rack works great. I usually go by myself with my 9'2". Sometimes my daughter comes with her 7'8". The roof rack holds both fine. It is very secure and easy to use. Probably the best board rack I've had. I got the dealer to through it in at no cost when I bought the car. Someone said the surfboard attachments for the rack were Tule just labeld as Acura. Good luck with it.
