XM & Nav Traffic

I assume that a subscription to XM Radio is required to get Nav Traffic Reports - is that right?

If so, is Nav Traffic included in the subscription to XM or is it an additional charge?

i think it's a few dollars more per month. Not worth it imo if you live in a big ass city like NYC. I find myself getting stuck in traffic and it's already too late most of the time.

Depends on the traffic reports in your area

It might be useful before you start your trip / from-to-work commute to see any reported traffic incidents to plan for re-routing, etc. And assuming most traffic incidents are reported for your area or where you are traveling at that time.

I find that not all traffic incidents are reported and some reports are late in my area so I might drop this service - and just keep the XM radio service - after my 3 month trial period.

They do offer nav on its own, but the price is pretty insane - $9.95 per month for nav alone I think. You would do better to read the threads on the $77 per year deal and then add nav to that for $3.99 per month - it's about the same price in the end, but you get XM radio as well.

I usually use the Nav to scout ahead and plan accordingly. In NYC, you are in an extreme situation, though - does it cover city streets or just the highways in and out? If so, then you can scout which highway is moving best and decide to take the long way home...

I just used the $77 XM deal as posted previously elsewhere. I added the Navtraffic for $3.99/month for a total of $124.88/year or about $10.40 per month for both. Much better than the offer they mailed for $12.95/month for XM only. I use XM just enough for it to be worth it (for me)...
