USB music question

I have to ask this, because I searched this forum & couldn't find the answer. I also checked on Acura's site, that was no help. This is new to me & I must be stupid!
OK. I have a USB port cable in the console. My '08 RDX didn't have that, even though I had the navigation / tech package. I was told, (or read it maybe??) that you can use a "thumb drive" with mp3 filesin it to play music through the stereo. So I took a cd, put it in my computer, used Roxio software to convert the music files to mp3. Play the files on MANY different programs, (on the computer), as mp3 & they play fine! I made a folder with the artist's name, a sub folder with the 10 mp3 files in it & copied it to the flash drive, (thumb drive!) When I hook it up, go to the USB name on the stereo, all it does is "see" the folder, puts up a number 1-1,2,3,4,etc. to ten but just keeps scrolling through the 10 numbers but won't play. I try to "select" something with the controls, but it just keeps scrolling! Alright, all you brilliant people, what am I doing wrong? I'd love to take all my older music, (records, cassetes, etc.) put them into the computer & then convert them & play them W/O having to make cd/ DVD's!
HELP
Oh I tried the files in the root directory, the first folder, & the sub folder. None of those worked either!!!

look at the properties of the Thumb drive using my computer(selct USB drive-->right-clicking it to bring up menu, select properties) and check under "General" Tab fo the filesystem. its either FAT32 or NTFS, more than likely it needs to be FAT32.

Also try going to music folder (find %user%\my music\) then select the filed album and right click(copy) go to USB then paste.

Let us know if this helps

Kaze, thanks, but that's what I did already. The property of the flash frive is it's formatted as a FAT32. I copied & pasted the way you said, (basically) & that's how I ended in this question. I will play with it more this weekend or next week. I've had one Hell of a busy week this week!

Well Kaze, you got me thinking...I took another flash drive, formatted it for FAT32, Made folders for each artist, copied the files for each artist, (MPEG format) & guess what it worked. The first flash drive had other folders / files on it. Must have been the problem It works great now, (either mpeg3 or 4) sounds awesome & plays through all folders /files. Can't wait to get all my cd's on the drive to listen to great CLEAR music in the RDX!
