Sirius Radio

Anyone know if a SIRIUS Satellite Radio is compatible with the RDX. I know XM works, but XM bites. Thanks!

Depends what you mean by "compatible". You can get a sirius tuner and input it through the aux. You can't just subscribe to sirius and have it run through the audio system currently in there. You could probably tap into the antenna being used for xm, but not sure how that would affect the navtraffic or anything else through the XM satellite like acura link.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a SIRIUS tuner but was hoping that my subscription would work with the factory audio system. Good to know i can use the aux.

I thought that XM and Sirius have different antennea - but there's some chatter on SiriusBackstage.com that talks about an adapter cable ... but that's only part of the fix.

With factory XM, you can navigate through the radio, and with the Traffic function, you see traffic on your Nav (if you have the Tech pkg). I like the integration of XM and the traffic, but the programming and quality of Sirius.

From what I've seen here and on the SiriusBackstage forums, you'll have to add a Sirius stand-alone and plug into the AuxIn port

I installed my SIRIUS S50 in my RDX as soon as I got it.

IMHO, SIRIUS blows away XM. The only thing good about XM is that it's built into the car and the NAVI, and integrates with the NAVI traffic.

I am told if you decline to renew XM, they will offer you a year for $77. When that happens, I'll post the details.

Nice work. oblio98. It takes a pair of stones to take a drill to your brand new ride! I will probably do a similar retro-fit. Have you experienced any signal interference as a result of having both the XM antenna and the Sirius antenna?

No interference at all. As you can see, the antennas are pretty close together, but since they are receiving antennas, they don't affect each other.

I had Sirius and XM in my last car. If I had to choose just one (and and I probably will since the XM is so well integrated in the RDX) I would go with XM. It is all about content, which has the sports or music, etc. that you want. A bit much if you ask me to say that one is way better than the other. No advantage truly in sound quality, (in fact both pale compared to HD radio, even AM in HD is pretty impressive), lots of similarities. Just go with the one that has the content you want. i don't listen to Howard and XM has several channels that I really like that aren't available on Sirius. I wouldnt be without one of them though, that's for sure.

I've had both and agree that signal and sound quality-wise they are equal. The reason i made the switch to Sirius was Howard and have found the musical content on Sirius to be much more suited to my listening taste as well. I found the music on XM to be much more B-side than mainstreem. I find the sports coverage about equal.

One sports advantage to XM is that they have Steve Czabin (spelling?) on Fox Sports. He is funny, been enjoying him here in the DC area for some time. I originally got Sirius because they have NBA. Kind of ridiculous that one has NBA and NFL and the other has MLB. Maybe they should join forces at some point, who wants only half the games?!?

Agreed. The sat radio companies aren't doing to well to my knowledge. It may be best if they join forces, however hardware maybe too different to allow that. If it was software I would think that their may be some way to upload it through the satellite link.

How does pricing compare?

Mike

Was paying about 10/month in first year of XM. this was a special sale if you pay up front and i don't think they offer it any more. More like 12/mo now. Sirius pricing is about the same. When I got Sirius though, I bought the lifetime subscription for $500 and have no regrets.
