Satellite Radio in Canadian Non-Tech?

One of the reasons we didn't buy the Tech package in Canada was because Satellite Radio was not included. Does anyone know if the stereo in the Canadian Model RDX is the same as the US? If so, we can probably put in the Sirius Connect or XMDirect box behind the dash and be up and running.

Has anyone done this with a Canadian Non-Tech RDX? We want satellite radio so that it can be used through the existing stereo and have to songs displayed on the screen.

I know we could just put in a portable unit and wire it to the AUX jack, but we don't want to do that.

If the stereo and the antennae is the same as the US model this can probably be done. I just haven't taken apart the dash to look at the back of the head unit yet...

Here are the links to the Satellite products I'm talking about. I use the Sirius one with a Kenwood Head Unit in our other car.

I can't say for sure, especially since I don't know anything about the Canadian models, but I believe the US model has the XM capability integrated into the radio head unit. I don't think there is a separate XM module that plugs in the back, but sasair could say for sure since he has pulled the radio out.

Normally cars that come with OEM sat radio and have a single integrated AM/FM/Sat antenna have a self contained head unit. The ones that use add-on modules would also need a separate Sat antenna, and that's not the case with the RDX.

yes it is all contained inside the head unit. Could be a modue in there, but I doubt it, wouldn't make sense cost wise.

I'm a little confused by your comment. In the US both models have XM and from the web site, neither model has it in Canada. So, I'm not sure why this was a reason to not buy the Tech package...?

I just meant that if the Tech Package in Canada had satellite radio it would have helped to justify the cost. I only need GPS about once a year, so the $3500+ seemed a bit steep.
