Mp3 CDs
Has anyone made/burned an Mp3 CD and played it in the cd player, preferably non-tech package? Just wondering how it functioned sounded etc.
Its another option to hooking up an ipod and stuff!

Although I have the tech package, that's really all I do with my changer - roughly 4G of MP3s. What do you want to know?

I've done the same with my Tech Package as well. When you convert music into mp3s you're actually downgrading the format so the quality will actually be less. You might not notice it if you're not an audio snob but it is noticeable.

Ok then guys, educate me a bit here. As far as sound quality goes, how is it affected? I down load a track from lets say Limewire, which would/should sound better, if i burn it to a cd format where I only get 18 tracks to a disc or if I burn it to MP3 format and get 200 tracks to a disc? Or if I put the tracks on an iPod and hook that to the sys?
@catnippants, when you burn a disc, how does it sound compared to other formats and how do you set up your music i.e. files albums etc?
Thanx

All mp3 is about is compression. Normal music files are decently large, that's why you can only put 18 or so on a disc. When you compress those files using mp3 compression, the files become much smaller but will lose some of the audio quality depending on the speed (kilobits/second). Generally, most mp3's are 128 kbps, but the higher kbps you go, the better the sound, but the larger the file.

Fair enough wspy - which is why I specifically chose the words I did. Unfortunately, Limewire has a reputation for a reason. So let me ask you this - why didn't you use iTunes as that reference then?
Sorry, but as both a musician and a software developer, I'm oversensitive to this stuff. It just amazes me how many people feel that stealing music and software is not only acceptable, but the standard way to do things. I have a thread on it going in another forum, and I'm really disappointed with the sense of entitlement so many people have....

Mp3 dvd
Along the question of MP3 CD's, I've made them with no issue -- if you listen to MP3's normally, then you won't care too much.
But my question, is it possible to create an MP3 DVD? I've tried but seem to fail. This interests me because I could include 24GB of music instead of 4GB.
Thoughts? Successes?

I don't really know. I haven't heard about much success in hacking anything in the recent Acura Navs - accept maybe the nag screen and/or start up image. I'm not even sure if that was completely successful.

tltopdog123 - If the front of your stereo face says MP3 then yes you can. However, why not just burn a few songs to a CD and find out. It'll take 5 minutes of your time.

Ikkoku - It's completely a matter of preference. I put all the songs at the root but I don't really listen to Mp3 Cds anymore so haven't done it in a while. But you can do either way. And yes, the folders and names do show up on display.

sweet... thanks for the quick reply!

As for the tags/names, it displays the file names, not the mp3 tags.

just burned off two CDs and it works great!
I don't see CD name on my non tech screen, it just shows CD#, Folder#, File#
In the beginning of each song, it'll show the name for a brief period. Now I can free up my USB port to charge my iPhone.

I was playing around with the buttons and if you press the display button, you can get the tags for artist, album and title.
