MID upgrade

We bought the base RDX model since some of the other options with the TECH package were not viewed as very practical by my wife (the primary driver). One thing we liked with the TECH pkg. was the enhanced MID. I would assume the difference between the base model and TECH MID is simply a chip - that all of the data elements would be available in either model. Do you think it would be possible to upgrade the chip for the base model to get the other features include in the TECH MID? Do you think there is a modified chip available to offer the same features? Or am I way off base and the whole notion of a chip to manage the MID is wrong to begin with.

Thanks

Sorry, MID=Multi-Information Display. It is that information window between the tach and the speedometer.

I should mention that we were hoping to see things like the Range to empty, tire pressure ....

ummm not sure, i forget but i dont believe the base model has all the buttons to scroll through the MID that the tech does. As for the rest, yes probably mostly a computer thing, i would imagine the sensors and such are all there.

you are totally off base. There is no mid in a base package, so no matter what chip you add or remove or whatever it will never install an mid display screen. It would cost you way too much money to have one installed, you should have just bought the tech package. Your out of luck my friend. Peace.

I don't know what I am looking at then. Perhaps my referenece as a MID is inappropriate, but there is a small information window below the speedometer. It has a graphic with the 4 wheels of the car that will display when a tire has a problem, it has a scroll feature to take you through the Trip A, Trip B, Oil health, odometer and maybe 1 or two other things (open doors,....). The window itself if the same size as in the tech package, hence my question about whether one could upgrade a chip. By your account I guess not.

Does the base RDX have the MID that looks similar to this?

I think the base MID screen is different than the Tech. It maybe seem as easy as changing the screen+chip, but you have to remember that it also needs a controller that is attached to the steering wheel. Also make sure the base have all the sensors/monitors such as tpm.

It almost seems to me it is not worth it to upgrade this. Check with your dealer as well to see if this is at all possible. Good Luck!

it is similar but not quite...on the left it has a little outline of the car with 4 tires, and then the right two thirds is split in half top and bottom with trip info, temp, etc...not as much info as the tech and no buttons to control it either as far as i can remeber

so acurajonathan yes it does from acuras website...."The-Multi Information Display (MID) is located under the speedometer and provides a variety of useful information...The technology package provides additional displays such as instant MPG, average speed, and individual tire pressure levels. The package also includes extra controls on the steering wheel to assist you in scrolling through the displays."
