How to remove access panel for Nav DVD update
I've read the owners manual and it says to remove the access panel on the passenger side of the dash. I've located that panel but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to remove it. I tried my fingers and tried a a key to help me pop it out. What am I doing wrong? how do I get that panel to flip up?
Thanks

That was my next step to try but was afraid I was going to break it. Where did you put the knife? does the flap flip up or come off completely? How is it held on? just trying to get a picture of how its attached.

It is indeed a pretty thin panel with just a carpet covering. For what it is, they made it pretty hard to find unless you know what you're looking for. Probably don't need to wedge in more than 1/2" or so.

I went from the bottom with the Acura key, but use a flat head screwdriver. Once you get the bottom, I just gently pried it open the whole bottom first, lifting slightly up and the top comes out last. Put the top in place first, then snap the rest in place. I got the new DVD Navigation, just to see if it was different. It wasn't, and I think those Zaggat restaurant ratings are gone as well. So $100 basically wasted, but it had been six years, so lots of construction I figured happened in that time. I know, use Google maps, but sometimes the DVD navigation is more convenient, and I can listen to music as well that adjusts the volume if needed.

Thank you that was very detailed and it worked. I went from 2012 to 2017 many changes on my maps. Heck I can now see my street. Now I have 2 2012 dvds. One that came out and a new sealed one. What to do with them?

I'm actually in the same boat - I bought a 2014 disc last year thinking I had a 2012, but not bothering to verify or I would have noticed/remembered that I had already replaced my 2012 with a 2014 when I bought the car. I check for used 2015-6 discs every so often online, and when I see one cheap enough I'll grab it. It's just not worth 100 bucks a year for the rare chance I'll come across an address that isn't in the database. And if I do, Google has my back.

You inspired me Willowbeast and I decided to update my navi DVD on my 08. I just came in yesterday and I haven't had a chance to install yet. It was 2014 the last time I updated my map.

Funny my street shows up on the map but doesn't have a name. It's only two years old, but at least it's on there. Not like I need it to show me where I live but I can't enter a home address. I'll have to add the neighbour's house. For a 2017 map that aspect is a little annoying.

Yeah, it's hit or miss when you're dealing with recent stuff. It's a "2017" map, but they generally become available in the 2nd half of the previous year, which means the actual map details can be even older. But at the minimum it should be at least a year newer than whatever was on the 2016 disc. It's all relative.
