I noticed that the non-tech subwoofer 39120-STK-A71 ($90) is less than half the price of the tech subwoofer 39120-STK-A81 ($200). Does anyone know what is different? Does one contain the amplifier module and one not? Are the box and driver the same?
My wife just bought a 2009 non-tech RDX and the subwoofer pales in comparison to her Pacifica and my Saab. It sounds weak and out of place no matter what the level is set to.

 

The only time I really feel the subwoofer is when I play DVD-A with the ELS system (which I only have 2 DVD-A). It still sounds pretty weak most of the time with FM/XM/ipod/iphone/CD playing. You would better off spending the $200 toward a real subwoofer set-up.

 

From pictures I have found of the units on ebay etc... it appear the non-tech version is amplified externally (only two wires), and the tech version has the interanl amp (5 or six wires).

As far as the sound is concerned, it sounds like part of the problem is the equalization of head unit itself (if it sounds good with one source and not the others). An 8" subwoofer should be fairly noticable inside a car. Has anyone seen any issues with the seals between the enclosure halves or other type of air leak?

 

Hey guys, I'm having a really hard time finding information online when it comes to upgrading the 2009 RDX TECH sound system. I would like to replace the front components and the subwoofer but I can't find so much as a wire diagram. Any one been successful in revamping their RDX sound system?
