Crossover Question

Hi all - I'm looking to fill in some of the mids by just adding some Polk 6501s up front and keeping the stock HU(non-tech). At this time, I'm not really interested in adding an amp or processor - just wanting to round out the sound and clear up some of the muddiness. Is the stock HU currently controlling the crossover points for the factory speakers? If so, how do the separate crossovers in the aftermarket component systems get integrated? Will the Polks get crossed over twice - i.e. once from the HU and then again at the Polk crossover? Thanks.

After doing some more research, I've conceded that adding an amp is really the only way to get the 6501s to perform close to their potential. I picked up Polk's new PA D4000.4 to get things started and have the MM6501s on order. I'm debating on whether or not to get the matching MM651s for the rear or just go with the DB651s since they will be used for just minimal fill. Any thoughts on the rears?

So since that amp dosent accept high level inputs, where are you going to get the signal from?

The installer I spoke to said he could use the Scosche SLC4 Hi-Lo coverter to link the head unit to the amp. Any thoughts on this particular converter? Any other options you'd suggest? Thanks.

Yeah you'd have to use that. Its a bit fragile though and I could'nt find much specs on it.
Another is the Cache CLOC+D. Its more durable more expensive and has a good SN ratio.
Both are good.

Thanks wspy. The Cache looks like a solid unit and it seems to get good reviews. I saw it at Sonic Electronix for $49.99 with free shipping so I went ahead and placed an order. Thanks for the recommendation.
