Bad Speaker - Handsfreelink Impact?

Guys...I had a door speaker blow on me this week. I do NOT listen to my music loud - in fact, I rarely take it above 8-10 with XM, 6-8 with CDs. However, I'm wondering if the handsfreelink could have had an impact.

Very often when connecting with my phone, I get pops and clicks as the call is made - especially when the cell signal is week. These pops and clicks sound very much like speaker pop - like when you unplug or plug into an amp or PA system without turning the power off first. These sounds are terrible for speakers. I'm wondering if Acura didn't adequately plan for/protect against speaker damage. Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes,
My old Moto RAZR caused this affect with the speakers. It's strictly an issue with your phone and the HandsFreeLink. When I switched to a new phone or used my wife's, I had no problems. I could bet this caused your speaker problems though. I was worried as well about it.

Interesting. I had a RAZR before recently becoming a lemming and buying an iPhone. My RAZR caused this noise all the time - and it very well may be that my speaker has been bad for a while (the bad one was hard to hear when the fader and balance were cdntered). I'll have to watch closely to see if I have this problem with the iPhone. Thanks for the pointer.

Is it out of warranty? For me it was a warranty repair...

I've replaced 1 door speaker, 1 door tweeter and 1 center channel. I don't think the tweeter was an issue I think they just replaced it by mistake. I have a LG Keybo phone. The service guy said he has replaced a lot of RDX and TL speakers. I need to blow my front door speaker soon before it's out of warranty. :-)

Well my drivers side door speaker has blown AGAIN. What the f**k is going on? Are these speakers really that bad? As I said when I started this thread, I don't listen to my music loud. I can't imagine how long they'd last if I turned it up to 20.

I'm out of warranty now, so I'm going to have to shell out for this one. I am still wondering if it was caused by the handsfreelink. I think I may quit using it and go with my visor-mount speakerphone.

Do they make 'heavier duty' replacement speakers that would handle more abuse?

Do you have the tech package or reg?
I wonder if there is any bigger difference both packages.

Or are they the same speakers - just tech has more speakers and higher watts.

@737 Jock - thanks. I had actually bookmarked that link a while back. One of these days I'm going to replace them all. For now though, I just don't have the ambition. The dealer wants 90 bucks to replace it. So be it...it could be much worse.

@JCRDX11 - I have a 2007 w/ Tech. I don't know if the speakers differ, but I'm guessing they're all cheap junk. The dealer told me the PN has changed since the last time I had it replaced, so maybe someone else is making them now. I just hope it won't throw off the balance - or I may have to get both front ones replaced.

stock speakers will always be junk, if you are looking for a very suitable upgrade, and due to the 2 ohm rating the stock speakers have. cdt audio just released a bunch of components that are at 2 ohms. they are a lil pricey but worth it.

Well as it turns out, my speaker WASN'T blown. In fact, it wouldn't act up at all at the dealership. I had them replace it anyway, but I kept the old one. I'm now worried about my head unit....not sure what else to check, especially now that it seems to be working fine.

I'd like to say I just had a bad source when I was testing it, but I tried XM, a CD, AND Handsfreelink, and everything was coming through distorted. Magically it was fine when I arrived for my appointment.

Oh well...

Same problem, blown driver side front tweeter speaker replaced under warranty. Heard the distortion more listening to XM compared to ipod/iphone/FM/CD/DVD-A. Sounded like a high pitched metallic buzzing sound that went with the music.

Out of warranty now, I will replace all with aftermarket speakers if I blow another one.
