Aux Jack

Anyone know of an alternative to using the AUX jack on the front of the stereo unit when attaching a PNP device, like an I-pod or Sirius Radio? I notice that the manufacturer offered I-Pod link routes through the glove box, anyone try playing around with that?

There are a few aftermarket products that would plug in just as the Acura MusicLink plugs in that would give you an out of sight aux in. Neo, USA Spec, etc.

Like you mentioned you could always hack up the MusicLink to achieve the same, or build your own cable to replace the musiclink dock connector cable.

There are numerous devices which can plug into the CD-changer jack on the back of the radio (thus enabling a "CDC" input selection). Some of these only work with non-Nav Honda/Acura vehicles, not the nav models.

I used a simple line-in device (can't remember the brand but it was $90) for my wife's TSX and a more advanced controller/line-in (Dension iceLink, $200) for my S2000. The iceLink allows the radio controls (and steering wheel controls if you have them) to operate the iPod.

Alternately you could open up the radio and get at the line-in jack from the back, then rewire to a hidden location.

Of course your warranty would be screwed if you did that!

DO NOT BUY THE I-LINK! The I-link for the i-pod is a disaster - stick with the aux jack. I didn't get one, but talked to some who did and wished they didn't.

Folks, I've come up with a "neat" way of using the AUX jack. I followed the installation method described by oblio98 on the following thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=380. I took his install one step further by also routing a 12' 1/8 x 1/8 mini stereo cable through the back of the center console, underneith the carpet around the passenger seat and up to the glove box. I ran the wire along the seam of the glove box and dash and used a plastic stereo clip to hold the wire neatly in place and plugged it into the aux jack on the stereo. Eliminates the unsightlyness of wires and gives Sirius listeners the full audio quality of the AUX imput. I will post pictures ASAP.

I went to photbucket.com & set up a free account. Only took a few minutes. Then you can send an email to your photobucket account with your pictures attached. It will format the pictures for you, for an easy copy & paste. You copy the IMG line & paste it into the acurazine post.

Any luck getting the pictures uploaded? The sirius radio is really the only thing holding me back from purchasing the RDX, so I am very curious. Thanks

I used a plastic wire clip to neatly hold the jumper cable. I wedged it into the seam in the dashboard and ran the wire through the glove box, around to the center console.

This is the type of clip i used:

This is the finished product:

You could also take it one step further and drill a hole in the silver plastic piece and run the wire up through there if you wanted it slightly more hidden. That piece of silver trim is less than $5. But that looks pretty good greez.

Very nice -- what I plan to do as well. If I could find a right angle headphone plug, I would definitely consider drilling a hole and going directly into the silver trim piece.... I may first try using the CDC plug on the back of the radio so there are no wires showing. Would also like to hear how the Neo kit works out for sasair.

I just noticed the wavy contours of the center console "slot" -- anybody know what's up with that? Maybe it would keep pens from rolling around?

I happen to have a pencil in there right now, and it still rolls around. Not exactly sure why they are like that.

I got an email confirmation from neo telling me it shipped earlier this week. Still waiting for arrival....

The pencil goes under the center console hatch. That slot is a great spot for the cell phone. Let us know how the NEOkit works.
