Angry Audio System and Upper Display Failed!

As I was pulling up to my house, I was jamming to a DVD-A. All of a sudden my audio system went dead, and so did the upper display (near the windshield) blanked. Everything else works fine. But the audio system is dead and when I press the Audio button on navigation, nothing happens. Anyone have an idea what might be wrong? I already checked all the fuses and they are fine. Right now I am disconnecting the battery for a while to see if that might help. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Its really freaking pissing me off that Ive had the car for 1 month and this is my second electrical related problem with the car.

Did you check fuse #23 under the hood?

If yes, then you need to take it to a dealer, as the next step is removing the head unit and checking the plugs. After that it is measuring voltage at certain pins. after that it is replace the headunit.

I didnt check any under the hood, just the interior ones (which are a total PIA to get to). What does 23 cover? I will be sure to check that one first thing in the morning. Unplugging the battery didnt help at all.

The first thing was minor, battery failure. I got a new battery installed.

Thanks for your help Sasair.

fuse #23 under the hood is the audio units direct 12 volt connection to the battery. Where the one under the dash (#35?) is the accessory power.

Then it is either bad wiring, or bad head unit. Hopefully it is bad head unit as that is easiest to replace.....

And just like chillyn, make sure you get your new unlock code from the dealer!

You think the head unit going bad would have the effect on the upper display? That is, if you disconnect the head unit, will the upper display go out?

Just curious, Brad G and chyllin -- what are the last several numbers of your VINs (i.e., 3462, 10,076, etc.? I'm wondering if this might be related to early VINs.

It doesn't sound to me like they are experiencing the same problem.

Hmm. That is a pretty wide VIN range. I hope these problems are isolated.

I don't think that matters much. I saw some low digit VINs here in Virginia.

audio system

Shortly after we purchased our RDX the DVD player failed. It has been on order for 2 weeks.

Funny thing is it stopped working, and we waited a week to take it to the dealer, and when we pulled up (to the dealer) BANG it started playing a dvd audio disc, and continued to do so for the entire day the dealer had it. Fortunately my neighbor is the service manager, so a week later when it again refused to work I knocked on his door, and he pressed some buttons simultaneously which put it in a service mode. He couldn't get it to work so he ordered a replacement.

Still waiting for it to arrive, but we visited the dealer 2 weeks ago to pick out a TLS, and the #$% dvd player started playing as we pulled into the lot..??

Update:
I took it in to the dealer this morning. They confirmed that the audio unit is dead and are overnighting me a new one. I have a Silver Tech RDX Loaner until it gets fixed though.

At this point I don't think anything is in high demand as far as RDXs go. Black on black and silvers have been the most plentiful colors since the beginning. When I had to order my CGP, the dealer had several black and silvers in stock. Not saying they aren't popular, but acura anticipated them being popular and made alot of them to begin with. Now most dealers have any color you want in stock.

I can find plenty of any color, except for the red/ebony that's my first choice! Silvers are all over the place.

Come to think if it, I have never heard of a radio or cd player failing in a car until now. Makes me wonder. Either I've been very lucky or is this something for me to worry about.

I have heard some strange noise from the audio system one cold morning. It lasted for a about a 5 to 10 seconds, I thought the thing was broken. So far, I have not had the problem again.

I started the car, then turned on the radio and all I got was noise. I turned off the radio and turned it back on and it went a way.

It's hard to describe it only happened once and after it happen, I didn't think much of it afterwards. It was like a loud scream. All I say it woke me up. It was not from being on a bad station either. I only listen to 780AM when I turn on the radio.
