Well, first I must say that I was all excited (and still am) because I thought I "discovered" something very cool when I upgraded the firmware in my Nextel Motorola i870 phone.

Although the upgrade resets the phone back to defaults (you don't lose your address book), it allows the phone to be used as a modem and a USB hard drive, but the biggest surprise is when I relinked it with my RDX I found that the display on the dashboard now shows signal strength and battery power.

Very cool!

However, a quick check of the TL forum showed that someone had already beat me to it, so if this is old news to you, sorry..... And if it's not, and you have an i870, the upgrade link is here:

and if you have any problems with it, you can shoot me a PM or post them here, as I got a "codelink" error and had to figure that out on my own.

PS - You will need a USB cable for your phone to do the upgrade. (Or you can bring your phone to a service center, but they charge you about $35 for the upgrade.

 

I just upgraded mine and noticed the battery and signal indicators...nice. I haven't had a chance to use the HFL yet after pairing...did you see any other new features?

Actually, I noticed the same thing when I went from my T-Mobile MDA to the new T-Mobile Wing. The MDA did not show the battery/signal strength but the Wing does.

My wife has a Razr and it shows the indicators....

 

I also had the codelink error. Two things to fix: disable itunes and turn off the usb memory card function on the phone.

Except for those hiccups, process takes about 10 minutes.

And it now shows the indicators.
