2011 DVD Update

Just wondering if the 2011 DVD update offers any significant changes to the 2010 version that came with my 2010 RDX Tech. Received the offer to update for $185 w/ free shipping.

Its $99 till January 31, 2011

I had received a flyer at home for this update for $185 with free shipping. However I read a post in another forum about this disk being $99, so went ahead and ordered it. Hopefully it will be worth it as I have not updated my disc in 2 years.

I went ahead and ordered it, too. Probably will be the last update I do--doubt I'll have car much longer than 2 or 3 more years.

If anyone ordered the $185 disc from the mailing, try calling Navteq Customer Service. They refunded me over $80, when I told them I saw the $99 offer.

Not quite sure I understand the question. Do you want to use the DVD in another Acura? If so, then yes I believe you can do that.

But you obviously need the DVD in the player in order for the GPS to work.

You need one disk in the player for each Navi system for it to work. Some folks in the past copied the DVD disks; but, I think Acura/Alpine is getting smarter and you can't do this with the newer disks?

Acura does not do a good job of listing the new updates with the new Navi disks. You just have to buy, load it, and wait and see if the updates are for your area. Once you load the new Navi version, you can't downgrade to an older version (only an Acura tech can do this).

I went 3 1/2 years with the same Navi disk in my 06 TSX and it was fine where I roam (NM, TX, CO, AZ, UT). The only thing the new disk gave me was the daylight savings fix for $185+shipping. I'm waiting every 3rd year to update my Navi disk (next update in 2013)

Does anyone know if the map layout changes from the one in the 2008? Is it more of a 3D map compared to the older one?

No, there's no major software modification like adding a 3D view.

Yes you can:

1) Hold down MAP/GUIDE, MENU and CANCEL at the same time
2) This brings up a Menu
3) From the Menu, select "Version"
4) Then select "Download"
5) This will download the old disc into your system.

This basically forces the firmware change from the currently inserted disk, even if it is a downgrade. The first step is how you get into the diagnostics menu (the $100 which buttons to press, lol).

Just ordered the 2011 white disc for my 2007 Tl Type S. I hope it speeds things up as well as adds some places of interest/businesses that don't come up currently.

Mine also finds places across the continent instead of next door. Not sure why. Perhaps the install of the new DVD will reset it to my location. The car was purchased from CA so I'm not suire why the east coast would come up first anyway when searching for a location.

I can't figure out why the navi can't search from its current location or why we can not set a current location?

I'm sorry if I sound ignorant here,(first time owner of a vehicle with built in navi) from some of these posts I am reading you buy the disc and have to keep it in the dvd/cd player all the time? Or does it download all the material to the computer and you can save the disc from there? Also, do the discs cover all maps or do you buy specific ones? I live in TX and my family and I road trip a lot wondering if it is worth the disc (my RDX is an 07) that has to stay in all the time or just use the old stuff.

The nav disk stays in the nav drive (under a panel on the side of the center console in the front passenger side). As far as what you are calling 'the old stuff', there is a disk already in there. The new disk would replace it. There is no harddrive or flash drive - the data is read from the DVD as it is needed. The US version of the disk covers the continental US, plus some of the border areas of Canada and Mexico.

Navteq site doesn't have the $99 offer listed, even when added to cart. Is there a code?

The $99 link is not working anymore.

I clicked on it late last week, and it was still offering the DVD for $99 (it showed the $185 crossed out), and it said the price was good until January 31.

I figured I had time to come back.

However, I clicked on it today (Jan 10), and now it says $185 no matter what. I won't be purchasing it. I missed my opportunity by a few days.

Maybe there will be a promotion again next year.

If anyone else is able to get the $99 offer again, please let us know.

Does anyone know if I can get a NavTec 2011 DVD for my 2007 RDX Tech with maps of Europe ?

Asking because the local Honda dealer here in EU is asking an equivalent of $350 for the DVD (not even sure if the DVD will play to begin with since my car was imported from the US)...

800-382-2238 Call CS and tell them you were told $99 through the end of the year. It's worth a try at the least.

A quick update....

Acura Navigation system is not compatible with any map disks made outside of the US.

...and one would have thought that companies will learn from history....

...so....I am screwed....and I paid extra $ for technology package with the lying salesman in Montclair Acura insisting the NAVI will work fine in Europe....:thumbsdow:

Would anyone know who the executive management of Acura are?

I wish the Canadian Nav disc is that kind of price. Ours is CAD270 !!! just because we have a smaller home market, does not mean they have to charge an arm and a leg for it.

I know it's great to have the latest maps.

But if the current map is getting you where you're going why upgrade just for the sake of upgrading?

Acura does not do a good job of listing the new updates with the new Navi disks. You just have to buy, load it, and wait and see if the updates are for your area. Once you load the new Navi version, you can't downgrade to an older version (only an Acura tech can do this).

I went 3 1/2 years with the same Navi disk in my 06 TSX and it was fine where I roam (NM, TX, CO, AZ, UT). The only thing the new disk gave me was the daylight savings fix for $185+shipping. I'm waiting every 3rd year to update my Navi disk (next update in 2013)
To downgrade Bavi Disc version on already updated Acuras this is how it is done:

1. You place old (old version) disc back into the DVD unit while the car is in I position (accessories)
2. Navigation will display Error - when it does, you need to press MAP/GUIDE, MENU and CANCEL at the same time and Menu will show.
3. In menu select "Version" and then "Download" and it will revert old navigation disc settings into the navi system.

That should be it...

Note: Some of the options may be different due to different cars (RL, MDX, etc)

It all depends on how old is the current nav software version, and where you are located. Some places, have quite a bit of road changes in just 5 years, so having the latest map update might be worth it.

My car is 2007, and it would 4.5 years now to date, a lot of the roads here in vancouver is not on my current map version. But for CAD270.00, I will just use my TomTom if necessary, with free map updates.

What month do the new Nav discs come out?
I'd like to update, but there's no point getting the 2011 if the 2012 is coming out soon.

Octoberish? Either way, it would be a waste to upgrade now...
